Mechanical Technician

Job Description

This Technician role focuses on precision mechanical and electro-mechanical assembly, working directly from engineering drawings and detailed work instructions to build high-quality components and structures. You will perform precision drilling, countersinking, and surface preparation on composite, plywood, and metallic materials, apply structural adhesive bonds, and install structural fasteners to exact torque and spacing specifications. Responsibilities

+ Work from engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and detailed work instructions to perform mechanical and electro-mechanical assembly.

+ Perform precision drilling, countersinking, and hole preparation on composite, plywood, and metallic structures to drawing tolerances.

+ Prepare surfaces for structural adhesive bonding and apply structural adhesive bonds in accordance with specifications.

+ Install structural fasteners, including rivets, blind fasteners, and threaded inserts, to specified torque and spacing requirements.

+ Trim composite and plywood parts, edges, and bond lines to net dimensions while maintaining tight tolerances and high-quality finishes.

+ Use calipers, micrometers, torque tools, and hand tools to measure, assemble, and verify components to specification.

+ Conduct quality inspection activities in line with engineering drawings, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality standards.

+ Perform testing and troubleshooting of mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies to identify and resolve issues.

+ Apply root cause analysis methods to investigate defects or nonconformances and support corrective actions.

+ Follow ISO 9001, Lean manufacturing, and Six Sigma principles in daily work to improve process efficiency and product quality.

+ Carry out preventive maintenance tasks on tools, equipment, and fixtures to ensure reliable operation.

+ Document work performed, inspection results, and any nonconformances according to established procedures.

+ Collaborate with team members, engineers, and quality personnel to resolve technical issues and continuously improve processes.

Essential Skills

+ Ability to work accurately from engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and detailed work instructions.

+ Proficiency in mechanical assembly and electro-mechanical assembly in a production or similar environment.

+ Demonstrated ability to perform precision drilling, countersinking, and hole preparation on composite, plywood, and metallic structures to drawing tolerances.

+ Experience preparing surfaces for and applying structural adhesive bonds according to specifications.

+ Ability to install structural fasteners such as rivets, blind fasteners, and threaded inserts to defined torque and spacing specifications.

+ Skill in trimming composite and plywood parts, edges, and bond lines to net dimensions while maintaining quality and accuracy.

+ Strong blueprint reading and schematic interpretation skills.

+ Hands-on experience using calipers, micrometers, torque tools, and a variety of hand tools for measurement and assembly.

+ Experience in quality inspection and adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).

+

Experience with testing and troubleshooting mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies.

+ Knowledge of root cause analysis techniques for identifying and resolving issues.

+ Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems and requirements.

+ Understanding of Lean manufacturing practices and process improvement.
