Structural Integration Technician

The Structural Integration Technician builds and integrates complex composite, plywood, and metallic structures by following detailed engineering drawings and work instructions. This role focuses on precision drilling, adhesive bonding, structural fastening, and trimming operations while working within a structured manufacturing system to support advanced aerospace and unmanned systems products.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings, detailed work instructions, and schematics to perform structural integration tasks.
  • Perform precision drilling, countersinking, and hole preparation on composite, plywood, and metallic structures to specified drawing tolerances.
  • Prepare surfaces for structural adhesive bonding, including cleaning, abrading, and conditioning in accordance with process requirements.
  • Apply structural adhesive bonds accurately and consistently to ensure proper strength and performance of the assembly.
  • Install structural fasteners, including rivets, blind fasteners, and threaded inserts, to specified torque values and spacing requirements.
  • Trim composite and plywood parts, edges, and bond lines to net dimensions while maintaining dimensional accuracy and surface quality.
  • Use hand tools and related equipment safely and effectively to complete mechanical and structural integration tasks.
  • Work with pre-built products and hardware to integrate components into complete structural assemblies rather than performing repetitive basic assembly tasks.
  • Follow travelers, routers, or MES/ERP work order systems to document work performed and ensure traceability and process compliance.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve issues related to structure, mechanical integration, and bonding processes.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and adhere to all safety, quality, and process standards.
  • Support aerospace, unmanned systems, and defense-related manufacturing projects by delivering high-quality structural builds on schedule.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to work accurately from engineering drawings, detailed work instructions, and schematics.
  • Proficiency in precision drilling, countersinking, and hole preparation on composite, plywood, and metallic structures to drawing tolerances.
  • Ability to prepare surfaces for structural adhesive bonds and apply adhesives in accordance with specifications.
  • Ability to install structural fasteners, including rivets, blind fasteners, and threaded inserts, to specified torque and spacing requirements.
  • Ability to trim composite and plywood parts, edges, and bond lines to net dimensions while maintaining dimensional accuracy.
  • Experience with aerospace composite structures such as fiberglass, carbon fiber, and plywood.
  • Experience with structural fasteners and adhesive bond preparation and bonding processes.
  • Experience working from a traveler/router or MES/ERP work order system.
  • Prior experience in UAS, aerospace, or defense manufacturing environments.
  • Experience working with pre-built products focused on hardware and integration rather than repetitive assembly.
  • Comfort using a variety of hand tools for mechanical and structural integration work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with structural integration of composite and metallic components in aerospace or related industries.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing execution systems (MES) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems for work order management.
  • Experience in unmanned aerial systems (UAS), aerospace, or defense manufacturing projects.
  • Understanding of bonding processes for fiberglass, carbon fiber, and plywood structures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a structured production environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to following documented processes and quality standards.

Work Environment

This position is fully onsite in a manufacturing facility located in Madison, AL. The Structural Integration Technician works in a hands-on production environment focused on aerospace, unmanned systems, and defense-related products, handling composite materials such as fiberglass and carbon fiber, as well as plywood and metallic components. The role involves frequent use of hand tools, drilling and trimming equipment, and operation within a controlled process environment guided by travelers, routers, and MES/ERP work order systems.
