Naph Care is hiring a Mental Health Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in Elmore, Alabama
, providing healthcare for inmates of the Alabama Department of Corrections – Staton/Elmore Correctional Facility.

As a Correctional Registered Nurse, you will work alongside officers and medical professionals to deliver care, including physical assessments, medication administration, chronic illness management, and emergency response. This unique position allows you to make a meaningful difference to a diverse patient population with complex medical needs.

New grads are encouraged to apply – we will provide training in the field of correctional healthcare.

Responsibilities
  • Perform initial health screenings and physical assessments of newly detained individuals.
  • Monitor and document patient health, including vital signs and medical histories.
  • Provide direct patient care, triage, assess patient needs, develop care plans, and coordinate services.
  • Manage acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.
  • Respond to medical emergencies, provide first aid, and ensure timely transport to appropriate facilities.
  • Educate patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention.
  • Understand and adhere to correctional facility security protocols while working closely with correctional officers and healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety and well‑being.
  • Maintain accurate medical records, document treatment plans, and report relevant information.
Qualifications

New grads are encouraged to apply!

  • Current, unrestricted RN license in the state.
  • Active BLS CPR certification (AHA preferred).
  • Knowledge of nursing practice principles, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable laws, regulations, and procedures for direct patient care.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Flexible schedule and willingness to work overtime when needed.
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and confidential information, uphold professionalism, and comply with all facility policies and legal requirements.
  • Pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.
Physical Capabilities

Must be able to stand for long periods, lift and move patients up to 50 pounds, bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks such as CPR while maintaining balance and endurance throughout a shift.
