Millwright Overview

Embark on an exciting career as a Millwright, where you’ll learn about installing vital machinery and equipment. Your experience will be instrumental in ensuring smooth operations and optimal functionality. Safety takes precedence in this role, as any missteps in performing essential tasks could pose risks to our team and the broader community.

Position Summary

The Apprentice Millwright will work under a qualified trade Journeyman to learn about installing machinery and equipment. This position is deemed ‘safety sensitive’ due to the fact that a person improperly performing the essential or marginal functions of the job would constitute a threat to the health or safety of the employee, the employee’s co‑workers, and/or the public at large.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Align machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, and plumb bobs.
  • Repair and lubricate machines and equipment.
  • Assemble and install equipment using hand tools and power tools, including bolting, welding, or other fastening to foundation or other structures.
  • Install machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, and other drawings, using hoists, lift trucks, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Position steel beams to support bedplates of machines and equipment, using blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
  • Dismantle machines and other equipment.
  • Construct foundation for machines using hand tools and building materials such as wood, cement, and steel.
  • Move machinery and equipment using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
  • Adhere to all company safety and QA/QC programs and OSHA regulations.
  • Work overtime as required and maintain regular, punctual attendance.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be physically capable of performing construction work.
Preferred and Recommended Qualifications
  • High School Trade preparatory classes.
  • Mathematics and/or Drafting classes.
  • Familiarity and exposure to construction.
Physical Demands

Must be able to lift more than 100 pounds frequently on the job and to climb in excess of 300 feet. Requires frequent bending, stooping, carrying, pushing, and pulling of weights up to 100 pounds. Must tolerate temperature fluctuations, a loud and dusty work environment, and be around high‑voltage electromagnetic fields. All the physical demands listed are essential functions.
