Position: Cross-Program Instructor (Floater)

The Role Vista is seeking a Cross-Program Instructor (Floater). The Cross-Program Instructor is a flexible, cross-trained position that moves between programs based on organizational need.

The Cross-Program Instructor’s primary assignment is Café Instructor, preparing and serving meals and facilitating activities and socialization for large groups of Vista members. This position also fills in as a Life Skills Instructor, implementing systems that support students'/members' independent living needs, whenever coverage is required.

What You’ll Do Primary Role
  • Plan, shop and prepare meals and activities for members in the café program and maintain a clean and organized environment.
  • Work within a budget to plan and prepare nutritious meals for members and lead activities to encourage socialization and camaraderie.
  • Prepare menus and shop accordingly on a weekly basis.
  • Ensure café duties and responsibilities are completed properly by members, including culinary skill development.
  • Develop and facilitate creative group, social and recreational activities for café participants.
Fill-In Role
  • Instruct and assist students/members with gaining independence in all life skills areas.
  • Follow/implement individualized strategies to help the student gain independence.
  • Assist students/members with navigating their community.
  • Assist with the ongoing day-to-day operations of programs, including household management.
Both Roles
  • Communicate necessary information to the team of staff for each student/member.
  • Foster relationship building and support social interactions with peers.
  • Work with students, members, and/or co-workers in a manner that supports an effective team function.
  • Be an excellent role model in all interactions with students, members, and staff.
  • Maintain all necessary records and documentation with accuracy, efficiency, and clarity.
What We’re Looking For
  • High School diploma plus 1 year of related experience.
  • Valid driver's license and maintain acceptable driving record as defined by Vista.
  • CPR, First Aid and PMT certified or the ability to obtain certifications within 90 days of hire.
  • Knowledge and skills in Microsoft Office suite and the internet. Demonstrated ability to use computer and other electronic devices as deemed necessary for job function.
  • Ability to transport students and members in either personal or Vista car/van to community sites in a variety of settings and weather conditions.
  • Be flexible in terms of scheduling, changing conditions, unexpected obstacles, and reassignment between programs.

Hourly Rate: $23.40, plus eligible mileage reimbursement

Location: Madison to Old Saybrook, CT |
Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt, Sunday-Thursday 11am-7pm
