Job Description - District Media Teacher

Reports To:

Director of Curriculum & Instruction (or Building Principals as assigned)

Contract Length: 185 days (Teacher Contract)

FLSA Status:
Exempt

Position Summary

The District Media Teacher serves as the lead instructional and operational resource for all Madison Consolidated Schools library/media centers, ensuring equitable access to high-quality resources, instruction, and technology integration across the district. This position provides direct library/media instruction to students, collaborates with teachers to enhance instruction through literacy and digital tools, and coordinates the management and oversight of all district media sites.

The role is aligned with the Indiana RISE Teacher Effectiveness Rubric to support excellence in planning, instruction, leadership, and professionalism.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Planning & Preparation (RISE: Purposeful Planning)

* Develops and maintains a district wide vision for media services that supports literacy, research skills, and digital citizenship.

* * Design standards-based media lessons that integrate reading, information literacy, and technology skills aligned with Indiana Academic Standards.

* * Curates and evaluates print, digital, and multimedia resources for instructional use across all grade levels.

* * Collaborates with district leadership and building principals to ensure consistent access to up-to-date, relevant library/media resources in all schools.

* 2. Instruction (RISE: Instructional Delivery & Differentiation)

* Provides engaging library/media instruction to students across assigned buildings, fostering critical thinking, inquiry, and lifelong learning skills.

* * Models effective technology integration strategies for teachers and students.

* * Uses formative and summative assessments to monitor student learning and adjust instruction accordingly.

* * Differentiates instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including English learners and students with disabilities.

* 3. Leadership & Collaboration (RISE: Teacher Leadership)

* Serves as the district's lead media/literacy specialist, providing training and guidance to building-level staff managing media centers.

* * Coordinates district wide media center operations, including collection development, inventory management, and resource sharing.

* * Facilitates professional development for teachers on integrating library/media resources into classroom instruction.

* * Communicates regularly with principals, teachers, and district leaders regarding media program goals, needs, and successes.

* 4. Professional Responsibilities (RISE: Core Professionalism)

* Maintains accurate records of materials, circulation, and technology housed in media centers.

* * Upholds copyright laws, ethical use of information, and district policies.

* * Actively participates in professional learning communities and engages in ongoing professional growth in library sciences, technology, and instructional strategies.

* * Demonstrates reliability, respect, and responsiveness in all professional interactions.

* District Oversight Responsibilities

* Establishes and enforces district wide policies and best practices for library/media operations.

* * Conducts regular site visits to each school's media center to ensure alignment with district standards.

* * Manages district wide media budgets, purchasing, and resource allocation in collaboration with administration.

* * Coordinates the use of shared digital platforms, databases, and technology resources across the district.

* * Serves as the liaison between Madison Consolidated Schools and regional/national library networks or consortia.

* Qualifications

* Valid Indiana Teaching License with Library/Media Endorsement (or eligibility to obtain).

* * Bachelor's degree in Education, Library Science, or related field (Master's preferred).

* * Experience managing a library/media center and integrating technology in instruction.

* * Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
