Position: Jefferson County Alternative to Suspension Program (JCASP) Instructional Support Personnel

To assist the instructional staff in guiding each student in the fulfillment of his or her potential for intellectual, emotional, social, and psychological growth and maturation. This position involves the education and supervision of students who have been suspended and would otherwise not be in a positive educational setting.

Students will be referred by both Southwestern Consolidated School Corporation and Madison Consolidated School Corporation, however, this position will be listed as an employee of Madison Consolidated School Corporation.

Qualifications:

Demonstrated aptitude and/or abilities for performing the tasks required. Must have 2 years of college or pass the para-professional examination prior to employment.

Ability to plan and organize. Skills in human relations. Ability to communicate effectively before groups of students and parents. Other qualifications as deemed desirable by the School Board and Jefferson County Juvenile Probation.

Additional on-site training will be required.

Pay:

$ per hour

Supervises:

Students, grades 7 through 12, who have been suspended for violation(s) of school rules

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work established by teachers

Maintains a disciplined atmosphere appropriate to the teaching environment

Supervises pre-arranged community service performed by students

Emphasizes and enforces safety factors within the classroom and building, as well as any off-site community service locations

Effectively communicates with students, parents, school administrators, and Juvenile Probation staff

Takes all necessary precautions to protect and maintain facilities, equipment, and materials

Speaks clearly using fluent and appropriate language in modulated tones.

Effectively communicates all learning objectives to students

Promotes good public relations for the School Corporation, the Jefferson County Juvenile Probation Department, and the community.

Engages in professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework.

Skills:

Exhibit interest in what is being taught and in the needs of the student

Assist in the implementation of policies and/or regulations which are established

Demonstrate professional ethics in activities in school and community

Demonstrate respect for the worth and dignity of each student

Cooperate with community agencies as they pertain to classroom activities

Conduct all school-related activities in a manner that serves as a positive influence on youth
