Structural Welder

MECO Group is seeking experienced structural welders for theSSS MCS Madison Early Learning Center public-works project. This position performs fit-up, tack welding, and production welding on conventional structural steel in accordance with approved drawings, welding procedure specifications, and project quality requirements.

• Read structural drawings, weld symbols, connection details, welding procedure specifications, and field instructions.
• Fit, align, tack, and weld structural-steel components using the welding processes authorized for the project.
• Prepare joints by cleaning, grinding, beveling, and removing coatings or contaminants as required.
• Select, handle, and protect electrodes, filler metals,leads, grounds, and consumables in accordance with the approved procedure.
• Visually inspect completed work, identify discontinuities, and complete approved repairs when directed.
• Coordinate hot work with the foreman and fire watchand maintain permits, fire-prevention controls, ventilation, and housekeeping.
• Use aerial lifts and fall protection safely and operate equipment only after training, evaluation, and authorization.
• Participate in daily pre-task planning and comply withthe site-specific safety plan, fall-protection requirements, controlled-access areas, and all superintendent or foreman instructions.
• Inspect personal tools and assigned equipment beforeuse; immediately remove defective items from service and report unsafe conditions.
• Complete required inspections, job hazard analyses,time records, and safety documentation accurately and on time.
• Maintain dependable attendance and productivity andwork cooperatively with the foreman, crane operator, safety personnel, andother trades.
• Immediately report injuries, property damage, near misses, and suspected impairment.

• At least two years of documented field structural-welding experience preferred.
• Ability to pass the project-specific welding qualification test before performing production welds.
• Current AWS D1.1 qualification preferred; all qualifications remain subject to project acceptance and continuity verification.
• Ability to read weld symbols and follow approved welding procedure specifications and inspection requirements.
• Knowledge of hot-work controls, fire watch, electrical hazards, compressed-gas safety, ventilation, fall protection, and dropped-object prevention.
• Reliable transportation to the Madison, Indiana project and consistent punctual attendance.
• Ability to satisfy background-screening andpre-employment and continuing drug-testing requirements under MECO policy,project requirements, and Indiana public-works law.

• Frequently stand, climb, balance, bend, kneel, reach,grip, and weld in awkward positions and at elevation.
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and move heavier equipment with team lifting or mechanical assistance.
• Work around heat, sparks, ultraviolet radiation,fumes, noise, cranes, mobile equipment, sharp edges, and changing weather.
• Perform the essential functions safely, with orwithout reasonable accommodation, while wearing required PPE.

• Non-specialty safety-toe work boots and durable work clothing suitable for structural field welding.
• Tape measure, soapstone and holder, welding pliers,chipping hammer, wire brush, combination square, small adjustable wrench, and customary personal hand tools.
• Personal tools must be serviceable and comply withsite rules.

• Starting pay is $28.00 to $34.00 per hour, based onfield structural-welding experience, accepted welding qualifications, project weld-test results, drawing and weld-symbol proficiency, and related iron workability.
• This is a nonexempt position. Overtime is paid in accordance with applicable law.
• Per diem, mileage, travel time, and lodging are governed by the written project assignment and MECO policy and are not automatic.
• Employment is contingent on work authorization,required onboarding, background screening, the project drug-testing program,and successful completion of any required weld qualification.
