Job Description
To provide needed supervision and monitoring of warming center guests and program. The center will operate during cold winter months when the shelter is opened. The position is responsible for the general management of the program and ensures a safe, secure, comfortable, and supportive environment in line with the Salvation Army’s low‑barrier approach to care for homeless individuals.
What You Will Do- Make call‑outs for volunteers to cover shifts for the Winter Shelter and follow Safe From Harm policies.
- Supervise guests and coach them on program policies and rules, including consequences for violations.
- Address immediate basic needs and orient guests to the warming‑center program.
- Provide supplies such as snacks, linen, containers, and hygiene items.
- Offer conflict resolution, crisis intervention, and support as needed.
- Assist community providers and social services in addressing guest service needs and promote activities that increase competence in daily living and independent living skills.
- Plan, conduct, and monitor group meetings and other activities.
- Maintain statistical accountability, daily logs, and census updates.
- Complete shift‑specific tasks such as chore assignments, cleaning, laundry, intake sheets, and more.
- Maintain shift‑to‑shift communication in the staff journal.
- Conduct basic intake information for each new guest.
- Demonstrate cultural competence and integrate this understanding into daily responsibilities.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by leadership.
- High school diploma preferred but not required.
- Background check:
Position requires completion and review of background check results. - Experience:
Must have at least some experience working with unhoused individuals. - Certification:
Valid driver’s license and adherence to the Salvation Army driver’s qualification standard;
Safe From Harm training required before employment begins. - Skills:
Speak, write, and understand English; ability to diffuse crisis situations; document program events; apply training and skill‑building information effectively.
- Good speaking, hearing, vision, and manual dexterity.
- Lift, pull, and push materials up to 25 pounds.
- Require bending, squatting, walking, and extended standing.
- Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision and ability to focus.
Work is performed in an office and church environment; may require weekend and evening work.
CompensationSalary Range Starting At: $10.00 / per hour.
