Position Function

The Coordinator for TRiO STEM provides support and instruction to limited‑income, first‑generation college students in STEM fields. The Coordinator develops and administers programming to meet the needs of the TRiO STEM program participants. This individual also offers learning skills and study strategies to assist students in their academic endeavors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Determine eligibility for participation in the program by reviewing the applicant’s income, first‑generation, and/or disability status.
  • Process student applications to ensure information is complete and maintain a database of TRiO STEM participants’ information.
  • Create, develop, and implement career‑readiness workshops/events/field trips in STEM fields.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating STEM educational program activities for all participants.
  • Provides comprehensive academic, personal, STEM Careers, and financial aid counseling to each project participant.
  • Maintain STEM resources for students through program offices that include, but are not limited to, academic tutoring, research presentations, postsecondary preparation, financial literacy, academic advising, disciplinary resources, and FAFSA preparation assistance.
  • Monitors and documents the academic progress of participants as they matriculate each semester.
  • Assists with TRiO Annual Performance Report and other grant maintenance, as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with other units on campus to create specialized academic initiatives, provide advocacy, expand awareness of services, and build a support network for TRiO STEM students.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise student ambassadors.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Supervisory Responsibility

    Received:
    Receives supervision from the Executive Director/Project Director.

    Given:
    Full supervisory responsibility to Graduate Assistant of TRiO STEM – H.

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Education:

      Bachelor’s Degree in a field/discipline related to the position.
    • Experience:

      One year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
    • Substitution allowed:
      Any equivalent combination of related experience and/or education approved by the Department of Human Resources Management.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Master’s Degree in Education or other field/discipline related to the position.
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience working with students.
  • Ability to manage co‑curricular activities and/or academic support programs.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Prioritizes tasks and delegates effectively.
  • Ability to use a variety of database and spreadsheet programs.
  • Ability to lead high‑impact initiatives from conception to implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage/coordinate multiple tasks.
  • Independent, self‑starter with strong work ethic.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Ability to oversee and direct staff.
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to the mission of the Division of Access, Opportunity and Success.
  • Working Conditions and Physical Effort
  • No unusual physical requirements. Requires limited lifting offiles and records and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility.
  • Frequent external imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one’s control; interruptions influence priorities; difficulty to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; involves conflict‑resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis.
  • Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
  • Ability to occasionally work weekends and long hours.
