Job Summary
Rehabilitation Specialist III within the Office of Assistive Technology division of the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services. This Time‑Limited (14-month) position provides assistive technology services to individuals with disabilities in Lee County, Mississippi.
Responsibilities- Evaluate clients for assistive technology services, including home and work site modifications, seating, positioning, mobility, adaptive computer access, augmentative and alternative communication, low-vision accommodations, and vehicle modifications.
- Apply the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards to home and worksite modifications.
- Assess clients who require assistive technology devices for education, employment, and independent living.
- Develop plans to address accessibility problems identified.
- Take measurements, survey homes (inside and outside), and create sketches or drawings of tools, equipment, furnishings, or adaptive technology modifications.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of all case-work activities and ensure confidentiality of caseload information.
- Write clear and concise evaluation reports and present results with recommendations.
- Gather and maintain resources for technology-related issues.
- Recommend purchase, repair, and replacement of assistive technology devices.
- Utilize tools such as tape measure, sketchbook, level, digital camera, and computer.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with clients, counselors, medical professionals, and assistive technology vendors.
- Research specific products or designs beneficial to clients.
- Learn and apply new or advanced knowledge in adaptive technology.
- Provide technical assistance and training to clients on proper usage of assistive technology.
- Prepare specifications and technical drawings.
- Assist with in-service training for departmental staff, other state agencies, and the local community.
- Build, modify, and install adaptive technology devices; customize devices for client evaluation.
- Communicate effectively with clients, counselors, and agency staff.
- Coordinate service delivery and oversee installation, configuration, and maintenance of approved assistive technology equipment and software.
- Travel frequently; service hours may include nights depending on department needs.
- Perform related or similar duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of MDRS policies and procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to prioritize, plan, and provide timely services.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to find solutions within available resources.
- Capability to travel frequently.
Typically requires a Master’s Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years of experience.
Location & SalaryLocation:
Lee County, Mississippi.
Salary: $45,794.32 - $54,990.95 annually.
