Adjunct Professor of Philosophy

Job Summary

The School of the Humanities (part of the Maxwell Becton College of Arts and Sciences) at Fairleigh Dickinson University (https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) is seeking part‑time adjunct faculty to teach in‑person sections of Ethics and possibly other Philosophy courses beginning in Spring 2024. The course is a 3‑credit‑hour Gen Ed, meeting Monday‑Thursday, Tuesday‑Friday, or as a double block on different days. Successful candidates may teach one or several classes, with ongoing teaching opportunities each semester thereafter.

  Florham Campus, Madison, NJ
• Start date:
  
  January 22, 2024 (Spring 2024 semester)
• Instruction:
  In‑person Ethics; additional Philosophy courses may be assigned.
• Schedule:
  
  Monday‑Thursday, Tuesday‑Friday, or double block on alternate days.
• Pay: per credit hour.
• Employment:
  Adjunct, temporary, exempt FLSA status.

Design and deliver interactive, engaging, and relevant Ethics instruction that meets the Gen Ed requirement and benefits students’ lives. Provide effective classroom assessment, orientation, and support for all enrolled students.

• Advanced degree (PhD preferred, Master’s acceptable) in Philosophy or a related field.
• Experience in coursework, teaching, or professional activity involving ethics or moral philosophy.
• Evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., evaluations, portfolios).
• Successful completion of a satisfactory background check, including completion of a waiver and provision of a Social Security Card.
