Job Summary: The School of the Humanities (part of the Maxwell Becton College ofArts and Sciences) at Fairleigh Dickinson University ( https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). ) is looking for part-time (adjunct) faculty to teach in-person sections of Ethics and possibly other Philosophy courses starting in Spring
2024. Sections are 3 credit hours and meet Monday-Thursday,Tuesday-Friday, or as a double block on different days including

Wednesday. You can teach one course or several. If you are successful in the position, teaching should be available everysemester going forward.

Our immediate need for Spring 2024 (semester starting January 22,see https:// ) is three sections of Ethics, Monday and Thursday 10:00 AM – 11:15AM and 11:30 AM – 12:45 PM Eastern, and Tuesday and Friday, 10:00AM – 11:15 AM Eastern. These are scheduled to meet in person on our Florham Campus at 285 Madison Avenue, Madison NJ, but for an exceptional candidate we could explore moving them online (wealready have offers to teach them online and would much prefer inperson).

Ethics is a Gen Ed requirement at FDU : all our students have totake it. We are looking for someone who can teach the subjectresponsibly, from a philosophical standpoint, but in a way that isinteractive, engaging, relevant to students’ lives, and maybe evenfun.

The ideal candidate would have a PhD in Philosophy withspecialization in ethics. We will be happy to consider you if youhave any advanced degree in Philosophy or a related field, even ifyou are currently in graduate school, as long as you have experience with ethics or moral philosophy and can show someevidence of excellence in teaching. If you have a background in Theology or religious instruction, you are welcome to apply as longas you appreciate that FDU is not religiously affiliated and anyteaching you do for us should not advance any particular religiousviewpoint.

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (PhD preferred, Master’s acceptable) in Philosophyor a related field.
  • Coursework, teaching, or professional experience involving ethicsor moral philosophy.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness.

Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check.

Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizingthe background check and produce a Social Security Card.
