The Vice President of Accounting will lead all accounting, financial reporting, and control functions for the company. This role will serve as the senior accounting leader, responsible for GAAP compliance, insurance accounting operations, monthly close, cash management, and internal controls, while partnering closely with executive leadership to support business growth and operational scalability.
This is a hands‑on leadership role, ideal for a senior insurance accounting professional who can both execute and lead.
Key Responsibilities- Own all aspects of accounting operations, including general ledger, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Oversee insurance-specific accounting activities, including facultative and/or premium accounting, settlements, and cash application.
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close.
- Prepare and review GAAP‑compliant financial statements.
- Maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies; recommend enhancements as the organization grows.
- Serve as primary accounting contact for auditors, tax advisors, and external partners.
- Oversee cash management, premium settlements, and clearing of aged balances.
- Review complex reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
- Provide analytical insights into financial trends, variances, and performance drivers.
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff (direct or indirect).
- Partner with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and operational initiatives.
- Support system improvements, process automation, and scalability as the agency grows.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant experience in insurance or insurance brokerage environments.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, insurance accounting practices, and financial reporting.
- Proven ability to operate independently in a senior‑level role.
- Advanced Excel skills; strong overall financial systems aptitude.
- Prior experience in an insurance agency, MGA, wholesaler, or reinsurance environment.
- CPA or CPA‑track background.
- Experience leading or building accounting teams in a growing organization.
