Job Summary

Under the oversight and general supervision of the Director of Business Operations, the incumbent will serve as an Accountant I or II, supporting a $200+ million, 23‑sport NCAA Division I Intercollegiate Athletic Program that supports over 750 student‑athletes. The incumbent will be responsible for daily accounting tasks, including a portion of revenue management, processing expense reports and reporting, for the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Principal

Duties
  • Process revenue transactions, reports, purchase orders, reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, and reporting.
  • Organize, prepare, and update financial statements, monthly and year‑end journal entries, ledgers, and reports for various financial needs within an automated financial system.
  • Assist the department in monthly and annual financial reporting activities, including engaging with external and internal audit and developing departmental reports.
  • Assist with training and guiding staff in processing procedures.
  • Answer questions and provide accounting‑related information to internal and external stakeholders according to established policies and procedures.
  • Investigate discrepancies and recommend solutions.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual budget review.
  • Assist with establishing and maintaining effective internal controls.
Key Job Responsibilities
  • Answer questions and provide accounting‑related information to stakeholders as per established policies.
  • Assist in preparing budgets and financial projections.
  • Prepare and/or approve financial transactions and payments.
  • Organize, prepare, and update basic financial statements, journal entries, accounts, ledgers, and reports for accurate recording.
  • Prepare and analyze financial data, reports, and records; identify discrepancies, investigate, recommend, and implement solutions.
  • Assist with accounting and reviewing reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, and reports.
Required Qualifications Accountant I
  • Entry‑level to two years of accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Ability to reconcile accounts, prepare journal entries, and process financial transactions.
  • Experience using spreadsheets and financial management systems.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
Accountant II
  • Three or more years of professional accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independence, sound judgment, and initiative in identifying and resolving accounting issues.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process improvements and implement effective solutions.
  • Experience interpreting and applying policies, regulations, and procedures.
  • Ability to provide guidance, training, and consultation to departmental staff on financial matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple priorities and complete assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Experience analyzing financial data and preparing complex financial reports and reconciliations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using University financial applications and databases such as Workday.
  • Familiarity with state statutes, University policies, and NCAA financial regulations.
Education

 Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related business field required;
Master’s or post‑secondary degree preferred.

Compensation

The typical salary range for Accountant I is $50,000‑$60,000; for Accountant II it is $63,000‑$70,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
