Overview

Finding the right fit: We are seeking a Federal Programs Grant Writer who will work with our leadership team and program staff to increase revenue by expanding federal grant program fundraising efforts, in addition to assisting staff and clients with State funding opportunities. Reporting to the Vice President of Development Services, this position will be a key member of our team and be responsible for supporting our mission of growing operations by securing grants from state and federal government agencies.

Responsibilities

On any given day, you’ll:

  • Maintain and expand support for company federal grants by overseeing execution of grants portfolio including research and prospecting, proposal and report writing, and stewardship activities
  • Maintain regular communication with federal agency program staff who fund infrastructure programs from such federal agencies as HUD CDBG, FEMA, EDA, and USDA and Rural Development.
  • Initiate ongoing communication with key staff to analyze funding needs, gaps and opportunities.
  • Maintain master files on grants and contracts.
  • Participate in evaluation and monitoring of grant funded programs.
  • Research, identify and qualify funding opportunities from corporate, foundation, state and government sources.
  • Manage efficient operational system to ensure accurate records and timely communication with funders; oversee grants calendar and maintain up-to-date database records for all applicable federal grant funding agencies.
  • Attend meetings with project managers to discuss and provide technical input on federal grant program guidelines, eligible grant activities and grant match sources and uses, and provide advice to clients and staff on grant strategy.
  • Develop a deep understanding of program content to ensure integrity and quality of proposal writing.
  • Lead grant proposal generation process including coordinating with key staff to produce and submit compelling high-quality grant proposals that can obtain significant support for all programs.
  • Work with key staff to develop and implement grant strategy for approaching new and existing clients for securing funding for their projects in near and long-term.
  • Develop materials showing progress of federal grant programs for upcoming funding updates and ongoing communications.
  • Provide support to leadership team and key staff for meetings with clients.
Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of 4 years of professional experience in grant writing with successful track record for securing significant funding awards from Federal and State agencies.
  • Superior knowledge of and proven experience writing grant proposals for funding from HUD (CDBG), FEMA, DOA EDA, USDA and Rural Development, and EPA, and an understanding of technical and financial requirements for large grants.
  • Demonstrated superior writing, research, project management and organizational skills.
  • Experience with administration of various types of federal grants and ability to communicate funding status with interior account managers and client financial staff.
  • Candidate will be asked for demonstrable written communication skills, such as a listing of secured federal grant awards for which the applicant was the primary author.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and good driving record required.
