Position: Construction Project Manager (Solid Waste Engineer)

The Dane County Department of Waste + Renewables (W+R) manages key environmental initiatives and services, including the Dane County Landfills, renewable natural gas (RNG) facilities, Clean Sweep, and Construction & Demolition (C&D) recycling facility. This department is committed to promoting sustainable waste management and resource recovery. By developing innovative solutions, the department strives to minimize environmental impacts while maximizing renewable resources.

Role Description

This is a temporary (1-2 years), full-time, on-site role for a Construction Project Manager based in Madison, WI. The Department of Waste + Renewables is breaking ground on a new landfill, maintenance shop(s), scale house, and administrative/education center. This role will assist in the oversight of various construction projects, focusing on planning, scheduling, and execution to ensure timely and cost-effective completion.

Responsibilities also include construction inspections, coordinating and leading progress meetings, reviewing and processing invoices, and other work to advance the +$20M in construction over the next 1-2 years. This role will work closely with W+R's team of project engineers and project managers.

Hiring/Project Schedule

Start date on or around June 1, 2026 and work until June 1, 2027 (and possibly longer). Estimate between 20-50 hours per week based on project needs.

Compensation

This is a LTE role limited to 1200 hours per year (full time from approximately June 26 to June 27). Minimum compensation is $44.50 per hour with some flexibility for candidates with experience.

Qualifications
  • Proficiency in Project Coordination and Project Management methodologies
  • Expertise in Construction Project Management and Construction Management practices
  • Strong skills in Budgeting and financial oversight of projects
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and communicate effectively with stakeholders
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field
  • Previous experience in construction or waste management projects is a strong advantage
  • Knowledge of environmental and safety regulations applicable to construction projects
  • Proficiency in project management software is advantageous
