Senior Safety Specialist – Construction

Madison, WI

One of Wisconn's leading commercial general contractors is looking to bring on a Senior Safety Specialist to take a hands‑on role in driving safety across active jobsites.

This isn’t a desk role. It’s someone in the field—working alongside project teams, influencing how work gets done, and making sure safety is built into operations from preconstruction through execution.

You’ll be a key voice on jobsites, helping teams plan the right way, coaching crews in real time, and stepping in when something needs to be corrected. Just as important, you’ll help elevate the overall safety culture.

What you’ll be doing :
  • Lead jobsite safety efforts across multiple active construction projects
  • Partner with project teams during preconstruction to evaluate means, methods, and risk
  • Run safety planning meetings and participate in ongoing jobsite reviews
  • Conduct site inspections, identify hazards, and work directly with teams to correct them
  • Deliver practical, field‑focused safety training (not just check‑the‑box sessions)
  • Support incident and near‑miss investigations, including OSHA‑related matters
  • Ensure subcontractors are meeting safety expectations and compliance requirements
  • Coach foremen and field leaders on daily planning and safe execution
  • Mentor junior safety professionals and help strengthen safety leadership across the company
What they’re looking for:
  • Solid construction safety experience (field‑based, not just policy‑driven)
  • Strong understanding of OSHA standards and how they apply in real‑world situations
  • Ability to spot risk early and step in with practical solutions
  • Someone who can build credibility with field teams—not just enforce rules
  • Clear communicator who can coach, train, and hold people accountable
Background:
  • Degree in Safety, Occupational Health, or related field or equivalent field experience
  • 3+ years in a safety‑focused role (or 6+ years of construction experience with safety exposure)
  • CHST, ASP, or CSP is a plus

This is a role for someone who wants to be in the middle of the action—working with good teams, on meaningful projects, and having a real impact on how work gets done safely.
