Position Summary
Merjent, Inc. (Merjent) is seeking a highly motivated individual to perform construction stormwater inspections and environmental compliance site audits in support of energy infrastructure and development projects primarily in Wisconsin, with occasional inspections possible in Iowa and Illinois. The work environment will consist of remote field settings and active construction sites, which may include work in adverse weather conditions and, in some instances, irregular and/or steep terrain.
Candidates with existing coverage under the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Broad Incidental Take Permit for protected species will be given priority consideration. Ideal candidates for this position will reside in south-central or western Wisconsin (e.g., Madison, La Crosse, Platteville) and be familiar with construction site erosion and sediment control best management practices.
This is a full‑time benefits eligible opportunity. The expected annual salary for this role ranges from $50,000 to $70,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Overtime is paid for hours worked beyond 40 per week, and the position is bonus eligible.
Responsibilities- Interpret construction plans and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans to accurately document site compliance with state and federal environmental laws and regulations.
- Assist with the preparation of environmental compliance training materials and present training to contractors.
- Attend preconstruction constructability meetings and participate in routine construction progress meetings.
- Collect, record, and manage corrective actions and site inspections for multiple construction sites.
- Coordinate with project teams and construction site managers to prevent and resolve compliance issues.
- Comply with industry standard and client‑specific safety requirements and apply situational awareness to mitigate in‑field risks.
- Travel across a coverage region, with some overnight stays and weekend inspections when necessary.
- Physical ability to navigate construction sites and work in varying weather conditions.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related field preferred.
- 2‑5 years of experience conducting inspections and preparing reports for stormwater inspections, environmental compliance, or construction‑related quality control standards preferred.
- Proficient with inspection documentation tools (tablets, mobile applications, etc.) and competency in using GPS or mapping technology to document site conditions.
- Highly proficient communication skills for coordinating with contractors, engineers, and regulatory agencies.
- Ability to work some weekends and to work more than 40 hours per week during peak construction season.
- Detail‑oriented with the ability to prepare and maintain accurate inspection reports.
- Self‑motivated and able to work independently while managing multiple projects.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record, and ownership of a vehicle for work use.
- Ability to pass pre‑employment drug and alcohol screening.
