Madison Magazine, Madison’s premier lifestyle magazine and part of family-owned Morgan Murphy Media, seeks a Digital Editor to create and assign digital content, promote digital and in‑print stories, and oversee the magazine’s digital strategy. Publishing print stories online, managing the magazine’s newsletter suite, and social media accounts are vital components of this role. This role focuses on growing and engaging magazine audiences across web, newsletter suite, and social channels.
We are a dynamic, forward‑thinking team of content creators and journalists who produce the area’s most prominent print source for all things Madison. We are looking for someone who feels a connection to our city and its surrounding areas and is motivated to tell the stories of its people and other reader‑interest areas through a lens that caters to the digital reader.
The ideal candidate will have proven writing, editing, and management skills. They must be flexible, creative, collaborative, extremely well organized, detail‑driven, and comfortable working on multiple deadlines.
What You’ll Do Website/Web‑Exclusive Content- Translate all print content to
- Maintain and update website CMS as needed
- Write at least three web stories per month, plus weekly/monthly A&E lists
- Review a share of web‑exclusive stories written by interns and other staff
- Collaborate closely on digital strategy with sister news outlet News 3 Now/Channel

- Manage a suite of six Madison Magazine newsletters, including tracking and analyzing metrics and curating newsletter topics
- Curate and write weekly In the 608 newsletter, plus 1‑2 Guide newsletters annually
- Copy‑edit and review links for all newsletters and approvals for sending
- Manage and strategize Instagram, Facebook, Linked In and other social content
- Write and create 5‑10 original content pieces for Instagram each month (grid posts, stories, Reels)
- Translate all print content to social media channels
- Curate and write monthly Editor’s Spotlight page, and write other print department pages as needed
- Contribute to print issue production and editing duties
- Oversee editorial process for several print/feature stories annually
- Write 1‑2 cover/feature stories annually
- Assist with all‑hands‑on‑deck situations at the magazine, including events, Best of Madison and other promotions
Education and Experience
- Minimum of 1‑2 years’ experience in a journalism‑related field, preferably in print or digital magazine journalism
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communication arts or related field
- Ability to balance several projects at one time and effectively meet multiple deadlines a month
- Strong critical thinking skills and professional approach to communication with coworkers and outside sources/stakeholders
- Experience with pitching stories, interviewing sources and reporting with strong news judgement
- Strong writing skills with experience in both creative voice reporting and hard news writing
- Experience with social media management across Instagram, Facebook, Tik Tok and Linked In
- Experience with writing and curating email newsletters
- Basic understanding of HTML, website design and headline SEO/GEO
- Baseline photography skills and proficiency with image editing in Photo Shop or other photo editing software
