The University of Wisconsin – Madison’s Precollege Enrichment Opportunity Program for Learning Excellence (PEOPLE) is a college prep scholarship program designed for low-income and first-generation college students. PEOPLE prepares scholars to be viable college candidates, applying for admission and enrolling at Wisconsin institutions with emphasis on UW‑Madison. Since 1999, participation has grown from 66 to over 1,100 high school students. The PRECOLLEGE unit serves scholars from 9th grade to senior year, while the College Success Center supports those enrolled at UW‑Madison through graduation.
PositionSummary
The Graphic Design Intern will collaborate with professional staff across the College, Precollege Madison, and Precollege Milwaukee units to create marketing and branding assets. The intern will provide visual design for logos, merchandise, flyers, newsletters, and maintain the PEOPLE website. The role supports social media management, content development, and digital communications.
Responsibilities- Generate graphics for program logos, flyers, and branded apparel.
- Maintain and update the PEOPLE website, including design, layout, and content.
- Create and format multi‑page documents in Adobe InDesign, Canva, or Publisher.
- Assist in social media management, supporting posts on Instagram, Facebook, and other platforms.
- Produce weekly newsletters and marketing materials.
- Research and develop visual and written content, including photography and video capture of scholar experiences.
- Manage the Digital Communications Calendar on Airtable and optimize the submission process.
- Monitor email inboxes and digital accounts, ensuring confidentiality and FERPA compliance.
- Maintain the Marketing Internship Yearly Campaign Calendar on Coda.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Current UW‑Madison student in good non‑academic standing.
- Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, or equivalent graphic design experience.
- Canva or equivalent content‑creation experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Creative, detail‑oriented, self‑motivated, and reliable.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise good judgment on social media.
- Capacity to work effectively with diverse staff, scholars, and stakeholders.
- Willingness to learn new software, including digital accessibility practices.
- Commitment to a two‑semester term from August 2026 through May 2027.
- Preference for PEOPLE scholars or students with work‑study, but not required.
- Web development experience preferred; photography/videography a plus.
- Experience with Word Press, Airtable, Coda, Trello, video production, photo editing, Google Drive, Microsoft Office.
Minimum 5 hours per week, maximum 10 hours per week. Typical schedule is a flexible 10–15 hours per week during the school year, Monday – Friday 9 am – 5 pm with occasional evening or weekend work. Applicants must block Friday 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm for bi‑weekly team meetings.
