Position: Wisconsin Capitol Tour Guide – Limited Term Employee

Position summary

Under the general supervision of the State Capitol Administrative Services Manager and the Capitol Tours Program Lead worker, these positions will perform as Tour Guides for the State Capitol by conducting public tours, providing instructions, directions, information and referral services to visitors and other public service tasks.

State Capitol Tours Hours Are

  • 8:30 AM to 5:15 PM Monday through Friday
  • 8:30 AM to 4:15 PM Saturday
  • 12:00 PM to 4:15 PM on Sunday
Salary Information

This position is in schedule-range (18-00) with an hourly rate of up to $15.40 an hour.

Job Details

Capitol Tour Guides will be expected to work weekends and to wear a uniform while on duty (vest and tie are provided).

Due to the nature of the position, DOA will conduct background checks on applicants prior to selection.
DOA does not sponsor work visas and is not an eligible OPT (Optional Practical Training) employer for F-1 international students. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States, and to complete the required employment eligibility form.

This position is Limited Term Employment (LTE) and is limited to 1,039 hours in 26 consecutive pay periods (1 year).

Wisconsin residency is required for Limited Term Employment positions.

Limited Term Employment (LTE) positions are not civil service classified positions, do not give any rights to permanent civil service classified positions and do not lead to permanent status.

Qualifications

We are seeking individuals with experience working with the public, and knowledge of downtown Madison and the state. Applicants must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. This position requires memorization of a large amount of information plus excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
