Architect - Science and Technology Leader

Shive-Hattery is a full-service architecture and engineering firm dedicated to delivering integrated design solutions while prioritizing collaboration and growth. We are looking for a Licensed Architect with deep experience in the Food + Pharmaceutical Market to join our team.

Full-time

This position is performed in an office or hybrid environment and may require travel to project sites, other Shive-Hattery office locations, or to meet with clients. A full clean driver’s license is required. The role involves sitting, standing, and working at a computer for extended periods. It may also require lifting light to medium weight objects up to 50 lbs., wearing PPE, and navigating active construction sites.

Shive-Hattery’s Food + Pharmaceutical Market seeks a Licensed Architect with 10+ years of experience in client contact, development, design, and leadership of architectural projects, with specific knowledge of pharmaceutical and science + technology project types and clients. This role offers a career‑growth opportunity, next‑level leadership challenges, and a chance to shape the Pharmaceutical design practice.

• Lead architectural design and project management, including design discussions, idea generation, collaboration, and design work in drawing, modeling, and 3D image formats.
• Direct non‑licensed and other professionals assigned to design, produce, and coordinate the design process, laboratory and manufacturing planning, and technical documents.
• Attend project and client meetings with design professionals for business development opportunities and projects under contract.
• Develop technical design solutions.
• Identify and develop training opportunities to enhance the company’s capacity in this practice area.
• Assist with growth strategy and client capture efforts to increase Shive‑Hattery’s market share within the pharmaceutical and science + technology practices.
• Assist in design presentation development.
• Assist with personnel needs identification, including internal networking to draw upon other team members for project support as opportunities increase.

• Completion of an accredited professional degree program with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture or equivalent education and experience. Licensed architect is a requirement.
• Proven experience in relationship building, business development, winning work, expanding work with existing clients, and leading project teams through every phase of the design process.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Strong critical, creative thinking associated with design and the design process.
• Knowledge of programming, planning, building materials systems, and performance.
• Comprehensive understanding of architectural specifications, international building codes, life safety code, current ADA requirements, and FDA GMP requirements for pharmaceutical R&D and manufacturing facilities.
• Experience leading project stakeholder engagement sessions with owners and users.
• Self‑motivated, capable of independent problem‑solving, and collaborative across project teams and disciplines.
• Willingness to mentor and teach others within Shive-Hattery.

• Compensation Range: $104,000-$147,000 per year.
