The CAD Designer, Equipment and Automation, will create Solidworks models, assemblies, and drawing files to support new products and equipment launches, as well as changes to existing equipment and products. This is an on-site role with some flexibility to work remotely. This position will maintain the PLM Vault system, ensuring parts and assemblies are up to date and documented correctly in the Quality and Manufacturing systems.

This position supports a collaborative environment that promotes positive teamwork where all members are working for the good of Exact Sciences. This is an ideal role for a hands-on Mechanical Designer with good communication skills looking to make an impact on the fight against cancer.

Essential duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Create new part and assembly designs that meet internal stakeholder requirements and are cost effective to produce with external manufacturing partners.
  • Utilize extensive knowledge of design tolerances, material properties, and various manufacturing processes to ensure optimal designs for business needs.
  • Facilitate design review meetings with stakeholders to seek feedback, assess needs, and convert requests to completed work.
  • Create Assembly files with complete Bill of Materials to support manufacturing operations.
  • Create Drawing files using correct tolerances, including GD&T, materials of construction, applicable notes, and maintain revision history.
  • Check, mark-up, and approve drawings for release.
  • Use computer assisted design/drafting software to develop, design, manage, and maintain drawings.
  • Develop, maintain, and oversee the PDM Vault database following best practices for drawing creation and lifecycle management.
  • Mentor CAD software users on best practices for drawing management.
  • Train drawing users on the available drawing resources including how to access, read, request corrections, and request creation of new drawings.
  • Update and maintain templates and engineering standards for Solidworks.
  • Assist in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Obtain quotes from vendors and order parts as needed.
  • Create documentation of design files for GMP requirements.
  • Document and submit First Article Inspection Reports and non-conformance investigations as needed.
  • Create assembly documentation for the manufacturing and quality systems in accordance with FDA, GMP, ISO, CAP, CLIA requirements.
  • Apply technical knowledge of internal operations, external manufacturing processes, and/or material properties to enhance company products and equipment.
  • Prepare and present written and oral reports.
  • Follow procedures and maintain detailed records.
  • Manage time and competing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds for < 5% of a typical working day.

  • Ability to work standing for approximately 20% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to work in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 80% of a typical working day.
