Job Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Mead Witter School of Music invites applications for the full-time, tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Collaborative Piano. The successful candidate will lead a well-established collaborative piano program in the areas of instrumental and vocal music, oversee all collaborative piano curriculum and activities, teach lessons for undergraduates and graduate students, mentor and advise MM and DMA collaborative piano students, conduct studio classes, coach chamber ensembles, and teach courses in repertoire and pedagogy.

Our new colleague will be a member of the keyboard area, oversee several graduate assistants in collaborative piano, and perform regularly with faculty and visiting artists.

We anticipate the starting date of this position to be August 17, 2026.

The successful candidate will maintain an active and visible professional profile; build professional relationships with local, regional, and national artistic institutions; actively recruit students for the School's collaborative piano program; cultivate a welcoming and healthy learning environment for students, faculty, and staff; and actively participate in service activities in support of the Mead Witter School of Music, the College of Letters & Science, and the University.

The successful candidate will advance the educational mission of the College of Letters & Science that values, prioritizes, and actualizes evidence-based and student-centered teaching and mentoring. They will contribute to an environment that fosters engagement and a sense of belonging for faculty, staff, students and members of the broader community.

The successful candidate will demonstrate fostering or the ability to foster a teaching, learning, mentoring, departmental, and a research environment where all can thrive.

Candidates for this position may be eligible for participation in the Excellence in Mentoring Initiative. The Excellence in Mentoring Initiative aims to recruit outstanding faculty who, in addition to their demonstrated excellence or strong potential in research and teaching, have demonstrated the ability and commitment to mentor underprepared or under-resourced students to help them achieve academic success and the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.

In this case, the faculty member will join a cohort of Excellence in Mentoring Initiative faculty across campus and become part of a growing community of scholars dedicated to inclusive mentorship and student success.

Job Responsibilities:

* Recruit and teach a studio of diverse undergraduate and graduate students in piano and collaborative piano

* Teach courses in collaborative piano for undergraduate and graduate students, including a duo sonata course for strings and piano

* Conduct weekly studio classes (piano and collaborative piano)

* Mentor students and serve on graduate committees

* Facilitate and coordinate collaborative piano assignments with faculty and students across all areas of the School

* Demonstrate the School's commitment to recognizing the gifts and needs of all students

* Build relationships across campus and the broader community

* Accomplish and maintain a record of creative scholarship appropriate to a tenure-track position

* Carry out leadership and service, and contribute to shared governance, with the keyboard area, the School, the College of Letters & Science, and the University

* As a faculty member in the College of Letters & Science, proactively contribute to, support, and advance the college's commitment to excellence among all aspects of their teaching, mentoring, research, and service
