Academic Advising Manager
The College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) seeks an academic advising manager for Russell Labs which supports the departments of Entomology, Forest and Wildlife Ecology, and Plant Pathology. This critical role serves as the academic advisor and primary curricular representative for all three departments building the schedule of classes and managing course enrollment. This requires the academic advising manager to be collaborative, organized, and an effective communicator as they will meet regularly with department chairs and faculty from all three departments.

The academic advising manager strives to create a welcoming and inclusive environment. In addition to advising approximately 270 undergraduate students declared in programs across three departments, the advisor also contributes to the planning and execution of student events such as graduation celebrations and welcome events hosted by the departments or Russell Labs as a whole. As part of the college advising community, this position participates in college‑wide events and initiatives to recruit first‑year and transfer students, serves as a generalist advisor during summer and winter SOAR (student orientation), and participates in ongoing training and development led by the college and campus‑wide units.
This position is supervised by the assistant dean for student advising and development to provide a bridge between the academic departments, the CALS advising community, and the college overall.
Key Job Responsibilities- Develops and implements academic advising events such as workshops, panel discussions, and guest speakers
- Participates in the campus‑wide advising community providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co‑curricular programs offered by the school/college
- Serves as a main point of contact for students and provides information about educational options and academic requirements; assists with identifying and assessing interests, skills, and values to match appropriate field of study/career options, and refers students to appropriate institutional resources
- Proactively engages students as needed
- Receives, processes, and responds to academic inquiries according to established policies and procedures
- Maintains expertise with advised curriculum and may assist in developing and recommending exceptions for policy and curriculum
- In consultation with Department/Curriculum Committee Chairs assists with data collection required for program assessments, evaluations, program reviews. Uses critical thinking and judgement to evaluate operational effectiveness and improve processes
- Participates as a regularly scheduled generalist advisor for CALS SOAR (orientation) in both summer and winter sessions
- Supervises unit staff and/or plans, organizes, allocates resources, assesses performance, and leads the operational activities of a function within the advising or academic services portfolio, such as program management and/or curriculum management
- Maintains confidentiality and accurate student records and processes and responds to academic inquiries according to established institutional and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policies

Compensation:
The anticipated salary range for this position is $62,000 - $80,000. However, final salary will depend on experience and qualifications.
