About Our District

The Madison Metropolitan School District is the second largest school district in Wisconsin. The district serves a beautifully diverse population of more than 25,000 students. More than half are students of color. Almost half come from low income households. Nearly one third are English Language Learners, and more than 100 languages are represented in our schools. Purpose of Position:

The Director of Bi-Literacy & Language provides strategic leadership and oversight for English Language Instruction, Dual Language Immersion, Developmental Bilingual Education, and Hmong language programs. This role supports the implementation of English Language Arts, Biliteracy (Spanish-English, Hmong-English), Literacy and Biliteracy Interventions, and Social Studies, ensuring alignment with district, state, and national standards and a commitment to culturally and linguistically responsive, anti-racist education.

Key responsibilities include guiding assessment and data analysis across multiple languages and levels, leading professional development, and collaborating on district wide programs and initiatives. The Director co-leads with other Curriculum & Instruction Directors, works across Central Office departments and community partners, and supervises coordinators and teacher leaders. This is a year-round role with leadership responsibilities for summer school curriculum and instruction.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises the Intervention Coordinator, Teacher Leaders for English Language Arts, Dual Language Immersion/Developmental Bilingual Education (Spanish), Hmong Programs, English Language Development, and Social Studies, as well as clerical staff.
