Academic Support Teacher
The Madison Waldorf school is seeking a warm and enthusiastic Academic Support Teacher for the school year. This is a new position for our school, therefore we are looking for someone who is flexible and willing to work with the Educational Support group and Pedagogical Council to form the Academic Support Program.
Our Academic Support Teacher will be asked to provide student support for different grades during the main lesson period according to classrooms’ needs, lead differentiated learning during language arts and math skills classes, and offer individual or small group instruction as the schedule and students’ needs require.
Academic Support Teacher’s duties and responsibilities- Lead small group skills classes in coordination with class teachers.
- Lead individual or small group sessions for students needing extra support outside the regularly scheduled skills classes.
- Administer reading assessments beginning and end of second grade, and at intervals thereafter for students receiving academic support.
- Assist in assessing incoming students to determine academic strengths and challenges.
- Administer speech and vision screening to preschool and Kindergarten students.
- Join the first grade readiness assessment team in performing the evaluation and discussing readiness with faculty.
- Candidates will make recommendations for external support when they identify a student who requires intense support (1:1 support multiple times per week).
- Help support diverse learning needs during challenging main lesson blocks (fractions, student reports, compositions, etc).
- Join our Educational Support Group, attend weekly faculty meetings, school festivals, and attend parent teacher conferences when requested.
- Be in contact with private tutors or parents when necessary to support students further in small group instruction.
- Support coordination of private tutoring times and locations within the school building.
- Support recess supervision and other outings as scheduled.
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher
- Familiarity with or training in Waldorf Education
- Training in assessing and supporting learning differences, including dyslexia, ADHD, and other developmental delays or challenges.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and outside professionals.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a compassionate, student-centered approach to supporting diverse learners.
- Basic computer literacy and proficiency with educational tools and record-keeping systems.
