Job Summary

Assistant Professor – Department of Mathematics, University of Wisconsin‑Madison. Full‑time, tenure‑track position beginning August 2026. Focus on the mathematical foundations of artificial intelligence as part of the university’s RISE‑AI initiative.

• Develop and maintain an internationally recognized research program in mathematical foundations of AI, including rigorous analysis of emerging AI systems and their societal impact.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate mathematics courses, demonstrating a strong commitment to high‑quality, student‑centered instruction.
• Collaborate with the broader RISE‑AI community and other campus departments to advance interdisciplinary research, teaching, and outreach.
• Mentor students and contribute to the department’s service missions, including equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives.
• Engage in professional and university service, and help shape innovative AI curricula across the campus.

• PhD in Mathematics or closely related field (required by start date).
• Evidence of outstanding research potential with significant contributions beyond the doctoral dissertation.
• Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, learning, and mentoring.
• Ability to foster inclusive teaching and research environments that support equity for all faculty, staff, and students.

Negotiable; 9‑month contract renewable on a regular basis.
