Job Summary

As vital members of the school’s educational leadership team, the School Counselor or School Social Worker maximizes the success of ALL students by planning, implementing, evaluating, and improving a comprehensive support program. Using a multi-tiered, multi-domain system of supports (MTSS), they promote students’ academic, college/career, and social-emotional development. This role focuses on direct service with students and systemic advocacy to promote equity, access, and positive behavioral outcomes for every student within the Madison Consolidated Schools community.

Functions
  • Program Management:
    Implement a comprehensive program aligned with the ASCA National Model or the NASW Standards for School Social Work, focusing on evidence-based practices that promote student success.
  • Data-Driven Advocacy:
    Conduct regular reviews of student data (attendance, behavior, academics) to inform tiered supports, "closing the gap" activities, and equity initiatives.
  • Direct Student Services:
    Devote at least 80% of time to direct and indirect student services, including instruction, appraisal, advisement, and individual/small-group counseling.
  • Tiered Interventions:
  • Tier 1:
    Deliver developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive classroom lessons and school wide programs.
  • Tier 2:
    Provide targeted interventions for students identified via data metrics or referrals.
  • Tier 3:
    Provide crisis intervention and referrals for students whose needs require intensive support or long-term community-based therapy.
  • Collaboration:

    Consult and team with families, teachers, and community stakeholders to create a "wraparound" support system for students.
  • Systemic Support:
    Engage in high-quality system support including action plans, lesson plans, annual calendars, and progress monitoring.
  • Equity & Culture:
    Promote a school culture free from racism and bias; ensure all students have access to the resources necessary for success.
  • Professionalism:
    Maintain ethical standards as outlined by ASCA or NASW and pursue ongoing professional development to stay current with evidence-based practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Criteria & Qualifications

To be eligible for this position in the State of Indiana, candidates must meet the requirements for one of the following pathways:

Pathway A:
Licensed School Counselor
  • Education:

    Completion of a Master’s Degree or higher in School Counseling from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Licensure:
    Must hold (or be eligible for) a valid Indiana School Services:
    School Counselor License issued by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE).
Pathway B:
Licensed School Social Worker
  • Education:

    Completion of a Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
  • Licensure:
    1. Must hold a valid Indiana School Services:
    School Social Worker License issued by the IDOE.
    2. Must hold a valid LSW (Licensed Social Worker) or LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) designation from the Indiana Behavioral Health and Human Services Licensing Board.
