4K Elementary School Operations

Starting Compensation: $24.82

MMSD is seeking highly motivated and energetic applicants who have a good attitude, willingness to learn, and passion for impactful work and learning.

Purpose of the Position

This support staff assists special education teachers with providing individualized support to 4K students with disabilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide instructional support and reinforcement to students across academic, behavioral, and functional areas in school, community and vocational settings.
  • Implement curriculum and behavioral intervention strategies under the direction of a teacher and/or related services staff.
  • Assist with transfers, apply adaptive devices, tube feedings, diapering, and provide bathroom assistance and mobility training.
  • Maintain proper hygiene practices as prescribed by MMSD health policies.
  • Coordinate and communicate with other staff to provide feedback regarding student performance.
  • Collect and document student progress data (academic and behavior).
  • Monitor and implement positive behavior strategies, including physical restraint and safe space procedures per behavior intervention plans.
  • Provide supervision during lunch, recess, playground, hallways and field trips.
  • Participate in job and district level training.
  • Assist with loading and unloading school buses.
  • Prepare instructional materials under a teacher’s direction.
  • Maintain records and daily support schedule for a scholar with an individual education plan.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
  • Provide individual and small group instructional reinforcement.
  • Work independently with students in various settings under teacher direction.
  • Keep accurate student data.
  • Work with physically aggressive students.
  • Work with nonverbal students or those lacking intelligible speech.
  • Follow teacher direction, written plans, IEPs, and behavior intervention plans.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse students, staff and community, orally and in writing.
  • Maintain student confidentiality.
  • Walk, lift up to 50 lbs., climb, bend, reach, and kneel.
  • Use basic computer skills (email, internet, word processing).
  • Be mature, patient, and compassionate when working with all students.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience working cross-culturally and/or commitment to improving cultural competence.
  • Associate’s Degree or 48 academic credits beyond high school, or accepted assessment.
  • Department of Public Instruction Certification (License) to work with disabled children.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree or 48 academic credits beyond high school.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English.
  • Prior experience in a public school setting.
  • Experience working with children who have disabilities.
  • Experience working with non-ambulatory and/or nonverbal children.
  • CPR certification.
  • First aid training.
  • Experience using email, internet, and word processing programs.
Working Conditions
  • Travel to different locations within the district and to off‑site meetings.
  • Work may include evenings, nights, and some weekends.
  • Hybrid work flexibility may apply depending on the position and work unit.
  • School‑based positions require in‑person presence.
Physical Requirements
  • Lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally; may involve walking, sitting, stooping, or reaching.
  • Work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments, including inclement weather and temperature fluctuations.
  • Perform tasks while standing for extended periods.
  • Operate office equipment.
