Position: Village Builder (0.5)/SEA (0.317) - 0.817 FTE - Crestwood - 26-27 SY

Village Builder (Village Builder Office)

The Village Builder supports social‑emotional learning, belonging, and family engagement in classroom communities.

  • Support youth in identifying, understanding, and processing emotions to enable classroom participation.
  • Assist academic and instructional goals of teachers.
  • Facilitate individual or small groups for SEL and tutoring.
  • Exude enthusiasm for children and learning.
  • Model a warm and embracing disposition and tone with students.
  • Engage with students at recess and lunch to build trust.
  • Support family liaisons, teachers, student services teams, and administrators with family engagement.
  • Attend regular meetings with supervisor and FYCE Coordinator.
Special Education Assistant (SEA)

The SEA performs highly specialized work with students with disabilities across developmental lifespans.

  • Instructional Support & Academic Assistance
    • Early childhood (4K):
      Support learning through play‑based activities and scaffold foundational skills.
    • Academic reinforcement (4K‑12):
      Implement modified curriculum and intervention strategies.
    • Transition (18‑21):
      Provide on‑site job coaching and task analysis for vocational independence.
    • Inclusive literacy:
      Prepare adapted materials for accessible content.
  • Behavioral Intervention & Student Supervision
    • Positive behavior support:
      Monitor and implement behavior intervention plans and safe space procedures.
    • Environmental adaptation:
      Modify physical and social environment to foster belonging and engagement.
    • Active supervision:
      Maintain proactive awareness and safety net during lunch, recess, field trips, and bus loading/unloading.
    • Structured monitoring:
      Perform frequent headcounts and maintain reach‑close proximity during transitions.
  • Personal Care & Physical Assistance
    • Daily living support:
      Perform sensitive personal care tasks including changing, dressing, eating, diapering, and bathroom assistance.
    • Dignified assistance:
      Ensure privacy and age‑appropriateness.
    • Mobility & technology:
      Assist with transfers, adaptive devices, and communication aids.
    • Hygiene:
      Maintain strict sanitation protocols and PPE usage.
  • Data Collection & Documentation
    • Progress monitoring:
      Record objective data for IEP goals, milestones, behavior logs, and transition metrics.
    • Communication:
      Provide updates via notebooks, home‑to‑school folders, or electronic logs.
    • Confidentiality:
      Ensure full FERPA/HIPAA compliance.
  • Team Collaboration & Logistics
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team for feedback and effectiveness of modifications.
    • Prepare sensory kits and organize learning or vocational environments.
    • Coordinate daily travel schedules for community‑based instruction and work‑site rotations.
  • Other Duties as Assigned
    • Attend district and school functions supporting strategic framework.
    • Complete any district‑required training.
    • Build collaborative relationships with business partners.
  • Qualifications
    • Minimum of two (2) years working with children.
    • Experience living and working with diverse racial, gender, economic, and linguistic backgrounds.
    • Skill in cross‑cultural communication.
    • Willingness to learn district technology tools for reporting and monitoring student progress.
    • Ability to provide individualized instruction and reinforcement.
    • Ability to work independently with students in varied settings under teacher direction.
    • Ability to keep accurate student data and maintain confidentiality.
    • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform necessary mobility tasks.
    • Basic computer literacy (email, internet, word processing).
