Summary
UHP Lead Teachers provide care for children in a play and nature-based learning environment. Lead Teachers will plan and facilitate developmental activities as part of a comprehensive program for children’s physical, cognitive, emotional, and social growth.
Work Schedule- 8:15 am – noon, 1–5 days (4–20 hrs/week)
- 11:30 am – 1 pm, 1–5 days per week (1.5–7.5 hrs/week) Lunch Bunch
- 12:15 pm – 4 pm, 1–5 days (4–20 hrs/week)
- Plan curriculum appropriate for ages and developmental levels consistent with UHP philosophy and goals.
- Provide care and protection for assigned group of children, ensuring supervision, health and safety procedures, and appropriate staff/child ratios.
- Interact with children in all program areas, encouraging positive social relationships.
- Treat all children with dignity and respect, delivering individual care: acceptance, attention, positive feedback, nurturing independence, and a curriculum that supports full development.
- Recognize and respect multicultural diversity: sensitivity, cultural learning opportunities, family sharing, inclusive materials, and ESL communication strategies.
- Conduct Ready, Set, Go conferences before the academic year.
- Maintain observational records, prepare progress reports, meet with parents for conferences, and provide ongoing communication.
- Coordinate attendance at Board meetings with co‑teacher to ensure representation.
- Assist in UHP’s compliance with licensing and accreditation requirements.
- Perform other duties as determined cooperatively by UHP Staff, UHP Board, and Director.
- A DPI teaching license from the State of Wisconsin that includes Pre‑K (4K), a Bachelor’s Degree to apply for a substitute teaching license or a commitment to acquire a 4K teaching license.
- Warm, friendly personality with ability to relate well to children; sensitive to feelings and needs.
- Willingness to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with UHP program philosophy.
- Professional demeanor toward children, families, parent helpers, and co‑workers.
- Ability to work with co‑teacher in cooperation with the Director, Administrator, other teachers, UHP Board members, and families to provide a stimulating and safe environment.
- At least 18 years of age.
- At least 320 hours of experience as an assistant child‑care teacher in a group child‑care center or other approved early childhood setting.
- Ability to lift children up to 50 pounds if needed.
- Prior to assuming the position, completion of coursework related to this position.
- Complete a background check.
- Assist with other required training for the position.
- Maintain COVID‑19 vaccination.
Teaching experience in a City of Madison accredited play‑based developmentally appropriate preschool program.
BenefitsPaid vacation days for teacher include:
Labor Day;
Wednesday before Thanksgiving Day, Thanksgiving Day, and the Friday after Thanksgiving;
Martin Luther King Day.
Paid holidays:
Teacher shall receive paid holidays (details from policy).
Absence / Sick days:
Teacher allowed twelve (12) sick days without deduction in the agreed fee.
Bonus:
If enrollment is at maximum, teacher will receive a bonus at the end of the fall and spring semesters.
- Thirteen and a half (13.5) hours of staff meeting time.
- Two days (3.5 hrs/day) for teacher to attend state and regional conferences as described.
- Each semester, one 2‑hour planning/in‑service to be held during set‑up/close‑down weeks.
UHP will pay up to a maximum of half of $100.00 a year per staff member toward teacher’s continuing professional education as approved by the Board of Directors.
Insurance / RetirementHealthcare.gov is an insurance marketplace for your own coverage. Each employee will receive $50 per month toward their own insurance and/or retirement account.

Childcare BenefitAll teacher children receive 50 % tuition after teacher passes probationary period.
