Job Summary:
A unique opportunity for an Alternative Education teacher to join an educator team within the Office of Youth Re-engagement (OYR) to serve students from across MMSD in an innovative graduation pathway program blending components of GED Option 2 and Competency demonstration through a Portfolio format. Teachers implement a combination of Project Based Learning, online intersectional platforms, and community experiences. This teacher supports academic and SEL skills development with students through a relationship based, learning community model.
The teacher will provide instruction through a skills development lens, with a focus on critical reading and project-based learning opportunities. The goal of this program is to make a positive academic and engagement impact on enrolled students, supporting them in being on track to graduate, and prepared for post-secondary goals.
Essential
Qualifications:
- Instructing students in smaller groups, using various teaching methods such as critical reading instruction, discussions, project-based learning and demonstrations, with opportunities for experiential learning.
- Adapting teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs through a career development lens.
- Establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students
- Establishing classroom management practices for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible, and observing requirements outlined in the Behavior Education Plan.
- Developing and Implementing relevant Social Emotional Learning implementation strategies, Restorative Practices, and community building strategies.
- Communicating with parents/guardians to discuss their student's progress and to determine priorities for their children and their resource needs
- Communicating with East High School staff related to student engagement and progress and developing a return transition plan.
