Job Summary
The Waisman Center Early Childhood Program (WECP) is an inclusive, full‑day, year‑round preschool for children ages 1 through 6. The program follows a developmental play‑based curriculum and is licensed by the State of Wisconsin and accredited by the City of Madison and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The WECP Teacher is responsible for preparing classroom lessons, facilitating classroom programs, and assessing student progress to ensure safety and foster an environment of learning and development in accordance with the Creative Curriculum.
The teacher also interacts regularly with parents and trains new teachers and students.
- Mentors new teachers and students.
- Maintains and documents effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to relay pertinent information and provide updates of child activities per established guidelines and regulations.
- Maintains the safety and physical well‑being of children in the designated classroom.
- Plans and facilitates classroom programming and schedules daily classroom activities for an early childhood education facility according to established curriculums.
- Evaluates individualized and developmental educational plans for children in collaboration with other stakeholders, as needed.
- Wisconsin Registry with Teacher qualifications (Level 3, Level 12 or higher).
- Certification per Department of Children and Families (DCF) 251 Licensing.
- Two or more years of experience working in a pre‑school or early childhood setting, preferably within a team‑teaching setting.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Child Development, or a closely related field is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits$45,000; salary is negotiable and will be based on education, experience and skills. Employees can expect benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, paid time off, competitive insurance plans, a savings account and retirement benefits.
Additional Information- Successful applicant must ensure eligibility for employment in the United States on or before the effective date of appointment. University sponsorship is not available for this position.
- A criminal background check will be performed.
- Successful applicant will be required to complete HIPAA training and receive certification upon hire and annually thereafter.
