Position Summary
The National History Day (NHD) in Stevens Point Learning Facilitator is responsible for supporting the implementation and growth of the National History Day program in the Stevens Point region. This work is done in support of a grant-funded initiative led by the Wisconsin Historical Society to expand access to high quality civic learning and historical literacy education in central Wisconsin. National History Day is a school year academic program for students in grades 6-12, which focuses on developing research, critical thinking, and analytical skills through history project-based learning.
The NHD in Stevens Point Learning Facilitator provides dedicated support to students and educators in the Stevens Point region, in addition, to supporting teachers participating in the National History Day cohort. They are responsible for creating and implementing a support system for schools newly participating in National History Day, including digital resources, in-person presentations, and one-on-one coaching for educators. They also coordinate visits by students and teachers to Stevens Point-area museums and research centers to augment student learning and create tangible connections between research projects and local history.
The National History Day in Stevens Point Learning Facilitator works as part of the National History Day team and reports to the Chief Learning Officer. Daily responsibilities and project management is led by the National History Day Coordinator.
Responsibilities:
Facilitate learning experiences for students and teachers in the Stevens Point region participating in National History Day and those involved in the NHD cohort:
* Facilitate virtual and in-person workshops about research, civic learning, and historical literacy for Stevens Point classrooms participating in National History Day.
* Revise and update curricular resources to support student research.
* Revise and update facilitation resources for teachers.
* Coordinate and facilitate student research visits to WHS Library and Archives during the fall semester.
Provide NHD contest logistical support:
* Provide administrative and event coordination support for the Stevens Point NHD regional contest.
* Attend and help facilitate the Stevens Point NHD regional contest.
* Actively communicate information about the Stevens Point NHD regional contest to participating teachers and schools.
Engage Stevens Point area schools and teachers in NHD
Other duties as assigned.
Salary Information
Pay is $17 per hour with a weekend differential of 80 cents per hour. This classification is in schedule and class 02-11.
Please note this is a Limited Term Employment position so it does not include paid time off or benefits upon hire.
Job Details
A criminal background check will be conducted by WHS prior to an offer of employment to determine if the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job.
This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and limited to 1,039 hours. This position will be part time and average 20 hours per week 2026 - 2028.
Wisconsin residency is required for Limited Term Employment positions.
Limited Term Employment (LTE) positions are not civil service classified positions, do not give any rights to permanent civil service classified positions and do not lead to permanent status.
WHS does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.
Qualifications
* Prior experience facilitating learning in classroom settings highly preferred.
* Enthusiasm for teaching and engaging students in the study of history literacy, research, and civic engagement in an informal learning environment.
* Excellent communication and organization skills and ability to effectively engage with large groups.
* Must be available to support the Stevens Point NHD regional contest, which takes place February through April.
* Experience working with PK-12 groups and/or developing learning experiences for these audiences preferred.
* Ability to use a computer and possess working knowledge of word processing, database software, and virtual meeting facilitation.
