Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Instruction Manager of the Information School (iSchool), teach LIS 464:
Applied Database Design, a 3 credit course at 33.4% time for the fall semester of the 2026-27 academic year in a classroom environment. The course enrollment capacity is 90 undergraduate students.

* Serves as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations
* Develops instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction
* Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses, including assessment of student performance

Compensation:
* The minimum full-time equivalent (FTE) salary is $50,115. This is a part-time position at a 33.4% appointment, resulting in a base total of $8,411.79. Actual pay will be determined by your qualifications, appointment percentage, and prior higher education teaching experience.
Principal duties include
* Teach up to 90 undergraduate students LIS 464:
Applied Database Design, part time at 33.4% time from September 2 - December 9, 2026 in a classroom environment at UW-Madison
* Update or prepare a syllabus in consultation with iSchool staff
* Deliver in-person lectures and lead class sessions
* Create or update course materials as needed, in consultation with iSchool staff
* Provide timely feedback and grading of assignments, projects, and assessments
* PA-Reader/Grader support may be provided, depending on the size of course enrollment
* Support students via synchronous office hours and communications such as email, Teams
Other duties:
* Complete required trainings
Required Qualifications:
* Practical or teaching experience in database design
* Expertise in relational database design
* Hands-on experience with popular database tools
* Strong SQL programming and query skills
* Knowledge of No
SQL databases, including MongoDB
* Understanding of data quality, governance, ethics, and privacy
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience teaching students with varied technical backgrounds
* Prior teaching experience in higher education
Education:
* Minimum of a Master's degree in Information Studies, Data Science, or related field required.
