Director of Mission & Ministry DESCRIPTION OF JOB
The Director of Mission & Ministry models and integrates our University mission, identity, and values as a Catholic institution sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa through strategic leadership, oversight, and facilitation of spiritual and mission programming, primarily for students. Collaborating with and reporting to the Vice President for Mission Integration, the Director accompanies students from Catholic and other spiritual traditions on their journeys of faith and spirituality, helps students develop as relational leaders through the Siena Scholars program, creates inclusive spaces for reflection and communal belonging, and provides opportunities for students to help build a just and compassionate world through dialogue, service, and caring for our common home.
The Director also oversees weekly, ecumenical campus-wide prayer, monthly Catholic Mass, and the use of St. Joseph Chapel. In partnership with the Vice President for Mission Integration, the Director assists with mission integration programming for faculty and staff. The Director supervises two part-time liturgy assistants, is a member of the division of Mission, Values, and Inclusion (MVI), and co-supervises the divisional MVI Programming Coordinator in collaboration with the Assistant Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Salary: $60,000 annually
Responsibilities Student Leadership Formation & Spiritual Development- Develops and facilitates the Siena Scholars Leadership Program rooted in our Sinsinawa Dominican values (the search for truth, justice, compassion, community, and partnership) and the four Dominican Pillars (prayer/spirituality, study, community and service).
- Collaborates with MVI divisional colleagues by planning and co-facilitating the annual MVI student leadership retreat.
- Plans spiritual retreats, ecumenical & interfaith programs, and service opportunities in response to student needs.
- Serves as resource for faith-based student organizations, regularly reviewing and updating the religious activities policy in collaboration with the Office of Student Involvement.
- Oversees the coordination of monthly University Masses, including the creation of worship aids and scheduling of presiders, musicians, and liturgical ministers.
- Plans weekly prayer in collaboration with the liturgy assistants.
- Oversees the care, maintenance, and scheduling/use of St. Joseph Chapel and the Multifaith Prayer Room.
- Oversees the content creation and publication of the Advent and Lenten Reflection Booklets in partnership with the Advancement Office and the Office of Marketing and Communication.
- Writes messages to the campus community for All Saints’/All Souls’/Dia de Los Muertos, the Season of Advent, and the Season of Lent.
- Plans and presides at campus-wide prayer services and vigils in response to crises as needed. Offers prayers and reflections at University events as directed by the Vice President for Mission Integration.
- Maintains an active relationship with local parishes to provide opportunities for Catholic students to attend Sunday Mass. Assists students of other faiths in connecting with local faith communities.
- Serves on the Mission Integration Committee, the Laudato Si’ Implementation Team, and other committees as directed by the Vice President for Mission Integration.
- Supports the Vice President for Mission Integration by assisting with mission integration program planning and facilitation.
- Maintains an active, regular office presence to meet with students and offer pastoral care as needed.
- Plans annual Christmas Tree Lighting event in collaboration with the Music Department and the Office of the President.
- Attends other MVI and University events as requested by the Vice President for Mission Integration.
- Exercises fiduciary responsibility in preparing and administering the budget and expenditures for Campus Ministry.
