Purpose of Position

The Literacy Interventionist provides direct services to students above and below proficiency in reading and literacy, diagnoses learning needs, delivers intensive interventions, and leads professional development and leadership to strengthen staff capacity in MTSS.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Principal, Instructional Resource Teachers, Learning Coordinator, and/or Reading Recovery Teacher to deliver direct services to students above and below proficiency in reading.
  • Provide comprehensive intervention services including identification through evidence‑based assessment tools, regular and intensive interventions to individual students or small groups, monitoring progress, reporting progress to meet MTSS and IDEA requirements, and maintaining effective communication with classroom teachers.
  • Deliver interventions using culturally and linguistically responsive pedagogy.
  • Collaborate with SBLT, teacher teams, and the data point person to identify students in need, use data consistently to measure response to intervention, make practice decisions based on data, and maintain records on implementation and fidelity.
  • Attend district‑level professional development to enhance knowledge of research, intervention strategies, and data use.
  • Assist in the procurement of materials and resources to support intervention delivery.
  • Participate on the School‑based Leadership Team and collaborate regularly with principals and other key stakeholders to review intervention implementation.
  • Assist in identifying professional development priorities related to MTSS and deliver professional development as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (official transcripts required for formal employment).
  • Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) teaching license in Reading (1316 or 5017) for the relevant grade level, or a current license that qualifies for the position. Unlicensed candidates may be considered if they obtain and maintain a valid license within 30 days of starting employment; note that the district does not provide financial support for required education or certification.
  • Expertise and leadership in K‑8 literacy.
  • Knowledge of Common Core State Standards.
  • Evidence of ability to implement scientifically researched, evidence‑based interventions and data‑driven decision making.
  • Knowledge and experience with Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
  • Understanding of a comprehensive assessment system and student achievement data.
  • Cultural competency in an urban setting.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, collaborative, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to the school and district philosophy and organization.
  • Preferred:
    Reading Recovery/DLL certificate.
Working Conditions
  • May require travel within the district and to off‑site meetings.
  • May require working evenings, nights, and some weekends.
  • Hybrid work flexibility may be available for part of the work schedule for certain positions, as determined during the interview process.
  • School‑based positions are required to be in‑person unless otherwise directed by the building principal.
Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally and to walk, sit, stoop, or reach. Manual dexterity is required for general tasks and office equipment. The position may involve being stationary for extended periods and working in indoor/outdoor environments year‑long, including inclement weather and varying temperatures.
