Job Summary

The Native American Center for Health Professions (NACHP) is located in the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) with the mission to improve the recruitment, retention and graduation rates of health professions students engaged with tribal communities and to promote health education, research and community‑academic partnerships with tribal communities. The Improving Indigenous Health through Mentorship, Academics, Engagement and Innovation (IIMAGIN) is a three‑year initiative funded by the Wisconsin Partnership Program (WPP).

IIMAGIN will strengthen existing pre‑college and college program pathways in partnership with tribal communities and tribal colleges and universities, enhance opportunities for residents, fellows and faculty by expanding tribal clinic rotations and the Indigenous health curriculum. The Recruitment and Engagement Coordinator is a grant‑funded position under the IIMAGIN grant, funded until December 2028 or until funding renewal. This role serves as the primary point of contact for project activities, including visiting student opportunities, engagement with various departments within SMPH and UW Health, and resident/faculty engagement with NACHP activities.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Lead the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day‑to‑day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers.
  • Develop and evaluate curriculum and programs and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Work with the NACHP Tribal Engagement Office on coordination of tribal clinic rotations and community research projects and maintain ongoing communication with faculty and students.
  • Identify, promote, and maintain external partnerships to support the outreach program.
  • Research, develop, and facilitate outreach program content and materials.
  • Assist with monitoring of outreach program budget spending.
  • Deliver outreach program content and materials to community members.
  • Schedule and secure resources and communicate logistics in support of an outreach program.
  • Assist the Tribal Engagement Office with coordination of faculty research projects and student research opportunities within tribal communities.
  • Assist with organization and communication of the NACHP Advisory Council.
  • Lead efforts around alumni and Advisory Council engagement opportunities.
  • Maintain tracking of faculty recruitment and retention.
Mandated Schedule and Location

Full or part‑time, 80 % – 100 %. Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. This position is terminal with a 24‑month appointment, may be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment. Work may be performed in‑person at a designated campus location or remotely at an off‑site location. The job may require occasional travel to both Madison and Oneida sites and statewide tribal clinic sites.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this position is $50,000 up to $55,000 depending on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications
  • Excellent written, oral and online communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel across Wisconsin and/or regionally and nationally as needed.
  • Experience coordinating groups, programs and/or other relevant areas through regular communication and planning.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Work experience related to tribal or native community outreach, education and training, or health.
  • Experience working with American Indian/Alaska Native K‑12, college and/or health professional student populations.
  • Experience developing and maintaining strong, collaborative bi‑directional working relationships with partners, educators and staff in a professional setting.
  • Capacity to produce deliverables with limited supervision or oversight.
