Outreach Program Manager

Job Summary:

The Confectionery Program Manager oversees and manages the operations of the confectionery science outreach program within the Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences
. This role leads the implementation of outreach focused strategic initiatives, supports confectionery research and educational activities, and ensures that programs effectively serve students and industry professionals.

The incumbent will manage multiple confectionery programs across various content areas, collaborate with diverse research teams and stakeholders both within the University and beyond, and assist in facilitating instruction for one or more courses. The courses are designed to educate technical, production, and research personnel in candy science. They begin by exploring the chemical and functional interactions of ingredients and progress to more advanced topics, including processing, troubleshooting, reworking, and sensory analysis.

Participants will gain hands‑on laboratory experience with various types of candies, learning from industry experts.

The successful candidate will possess strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple programs simultaneously. They will also have effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with faculty, students, and external partners.

Unique Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses, including assessment of student performance.
  • Monitors the unit or program budget and approves program expenditures.
  • May exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees.
  • Supervises the implementation of outreach‑program‑focused strategic planning initiatives and objectives.
  • Reviews recommendations for and provides input on the design and development of new outreach programs or services.
  • Develops and implements operating policies and procedures to promote the outreach program in alignment with the strategic plan.
  • Determines outreach program needs and the personnel resource allocation plan.

Compensation:

The minimum starting salary for this position is $80,000. Actual salary will depend on experience and qualifications. Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience coordinating or managing outreach, educational, or training programs, including contributing to strategic planning, program development, or continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience supervising staff, student employees, or project teams, including assigning work, providing guidance or training, and monitoring task completion or performance.
  • Experience developing, implementing, or maintaining operating procedures, policies, or program workflows.
  • Experience with purchasing and/or approving and tracking program expenditures.
