Job Summary
The Confectionery Program Manager oversees the operations of the confectionery science outreach program within the Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences. The role leads strategic initiatives, supports confectionery research, and ensures programs serve students and industry professionals. The incumbent manages multiple programs, collaborates with research teams and stakeholders, and assists in instruction for courses designed to educate technical, production, and research personnel in candy science.
Key Job Responsibilities- Facilitates classroom, online, and laboratory instruction for one or more courses, including assessment of student performance.
- Monitors the unit or program budget and approves program expenditures.
- Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, and discharging employees for at least 2.0 FTE.
- Supervises the implementation of outreach‑program‑focused strategic planning initiatives and objectives.
- Reviews recommendations for and provides input on the design and development of new outreach programs or services.
- Develops and implements operating policies and procedures to promote the outreach program in alignment with the strategic plan.
- Determines outreach program needs and the personnel resource allocation plan.
- Candidate must become an approved driver through UW‑Madison's driver authorization process, meeting the criteria listed at .
- A criminal background check may be required.
- A 12‑month evaluation period may be required.
- This is a full‑time, hybrid position requiring some onsite work.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience coordinating or managing outreach, educational, or training programs.
- Experience supervising staff, student employees, or project teams, including assigning work and monitoring task completion.
- Experience developing, implementing, or maintaining operating procedures, policies, or program workflows.
- Experience with purchasing and/or approving and tracking program expenditures.
- Experience in confectionery science, candy formulation, food processing, or related product development work.
- Experience developing or delivering technical training, short courses, workshops, or industry‑focused educational programs.
- Experience working with and providing training to industry professionals or students to support research/product development projects.
Master's degree required in Food Science, Chemistry, Engineering, or a closely related discipline;
PhD preferred.
The minimum starting salary for this position is $80,000. Actual salary will depend on experience and qualifications.
