Job Summary:

The Learning Support Specialist position in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will enhance student learning, academic performance, and retention through individualized academic coaching, instructional support, and skill‑development programming.

Through collaborations with faculty and academic advisors, this role focuses on:

* Providing proactive support and interventions for pharmacy students who may be academically at risk or navigating high‑stakes coursework and assessments

* The use of evidence-based academic support practices, peer education models, and student success strategies to train, coach, develop, and supervise students, student leaders, and peer educators, including undergraduate and graduate student employees

* Using student success data for program evaluation and continuous improvement

This full-time position is under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Student Affairs in the School of Pharmacy.

Key

Job Responsibilities:

* Provides supplemental instruction for students enrolled in classroom, online, and/or laboratory courses in a variety of formats such as one-on-one sessions, group sessions, peer mentor sessions, and seminars

* Works to develop and/or design curriculum and/or techniques for instruction in a disciplinary area and suggests new ways of effective instruction within that discipline

* Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy and may train other staff in use of said instructional techniques

* May supervise the day-to-day activities of work unit employees involved in instructional support

* May participate in strategic planning and grant proposals for instructional development, new teaching methods, and program direction

* Meets with students for intake and general assessment and makes referrals to others on campus as appropriate

* Assesses learner performance and may prepare reports recommending instructional improvements

* Assists in defining the objectives of the program and plays a major role in carrying out program duties

Department:

The Office of Student Services at the UW-Madison School of Pharmacy supports and enhances the academic experience of all students enrolled in academic programs within the School of Pharmacy in a welcoming and inclusive environment. We develop innovative programming and provide comprehensive services through our recruitment, admissions, academic advising, professional and career development, and retention activities.

Compensation:

Qualified candidates can expect to earn between $60,000 and $70,000 annually. Candidates who are highly qualified may earn between $70,00 and $80,000 annually.

Required Qualifications:

* Familiarity with learning theory, educational psychology, and adult learning principles

* Strong collaboration and communication skills

* Experience with data collection and analysis

* Excellent organizational, analytical, and project management skills

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience teaching at the postsecondary level

* Experience coordinating academic support programs such as tutoring, supplemental instruction, peer mentoring, or similar initiatives

* Experience designing and facilitating workshops, orientations, or trainings

* Experience with academic advising, educational coaching, or counseling in higher education

* Experience in health sciences or professional programs, particularly medical or pharmacy education

* Familiarity with curriculum requirements in medical or pharmacy education

Education:

Master's degree preferred minimum

Bachelor's degree required
