Grade 7 Language Arts (0.667)/Social Studies (0.333) Teacher

Location:

Whitehorse. 1.0 Total FTE. Length of contract: 192 days.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Use standards (CCSS, SELS, Language, etc.) to identify common learning targets that represent what all students should know, do, and understand as a result of the instruction.
  • Use knowledge of students’ backgrounds, interests, styles, cultures, languages, individual needs, and assessment data to inform planning.
  • Develop daily and weekly plans to support student growth toward mastery of standards.
  • Develop common year‑long/course plans that identify the essential questions and resources to support student learning.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate them to students.
  • Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations to build engagement, collaboration, and independence.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
  • Provide daily opportunities for students to describe reasoning, share explanations, make conjectures, justify conclusions, argue from evidence, and negotiate meaning.
  • Define and plan formative assessments to show evidence of learning.
  • Use multiple ways to check for student understanding and clarify, reteach, and make adjustments to instruction based on information gathered.
  • Provide students with meaningful feedback that reinforces effort, provides recognition, and promotes student involvement and progress.
  • Provide opportunities for teacher‑to‑student, student‑to‑student, and student‑to‑teacher feedback both orally and written.
  • Analyze data and adjust instruction based on student achievement, observation, and teacher practice data.
  • Establish rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students.
  • Meet with parents/guardians to discuss student progress and to determine priorities and resources needed.
  • Collaborate with all staff in support of student learning (team planning, co‑teaching).
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree. Official transcripts required for formal employment.
  • Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) teaching license in Broadfield Science or Science (1601, 1634, or 2600) or Regular Education (1777, 1088, or 2088) covering the grade level(s) taught, OR a DPI license in Broadfield Social Studies or Social Studies (1701 or 2700) or Regular Education (1777, 1088, or 2088) covering the grade level(s) taught.
  • Applicants must be a fully licensed teacher before consideration; unlicensed candidates may be considered once licensed within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or Hmong is an asset for bilingual positions.
Working Conditions
  • Work may require travel within the district and to off‑site meetings.
  • Position may require work during evenings, nights, and some weekends.
  • Hybrid work flexibility may be available for certain positions depending on needs; discussed in interview.
  • School‑based positions require in‑person presence unless otherwise directed.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Requires walking, sitting, stooping, or reaching; may involve stationary periods.
  • Must tolerate various indoor and outdoor environments, including inclement weather.
