Student Program Specialist

Career & Employment Services at Madison College is seeking a Student Program Specialist. This position is responsible for the development and delivery of comprehensive career and employment services and activities.

The Student Program Specialist specializes in promotion and recruitment activities for prospective male and female students considering nontraditional occupations (NTO); coordinates retention and career services for current NTO students; and focuses on serving students meeting Perkins Student Success grant eligibility.

This position serves as a liaison to employers, community partners, and faculty and supports NTO student awareness, professional development, and retention. The Student Program Specialist delivers effective services to improve student career development and employability and assists students in developing meaningful educational plans that are compatible with their academic, career, and life goals.

Position Details:

  • Schedule:

    This is a full-time position scheduled for 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year, with core hours Monday through Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm. This position has the opportunity to work remote 2 days a week, subject to change in accordance with Madison College policy.
  • Expected Progression:
    This position includes an expected progression plan. Upon meeting the outlined criteria, you will be eligible to receive a $1.00 per hour increase.
  • Benefits:
    Madison College provides a generous benefits package of vacation, holidays, health/vision/dental/life insurance options, and you will be able to participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS).
  • Grant Funded:
    This position is a renewable, grant funded position through June 30, 2027, continuation of this position is dependent on continued funding beyond this date. However, it is expected to be renewed.

Accountabilities:

  • Supports students in career development by providing guidance on resume building, cover letter writing, job search strategies, interviewing skills and professional networking.
  • Develops and maintains career services materials by collaborating with colleagues to create presentations, curriculum and resources that enhance career readiness.
  • Provides specialized career support by working independently with assigned student groups based on grant requirements or targeted career services initiatives.
  • Contributes to departmental goals by participating in career services work groups and collaborating with colleagues to enhance student career development efforts.
  • Engages with employers by maintaining outreach efforts and providing ongoing support to strengthen student employment opportunities.
  • Contributes to an inclusive, equitable and supportive environment where everyone at the institution feels valued, respected and empowered to reach their full potential.
  • Performs other related duties within the scope of the position as required for the efficient operation of the division and to support institutional objectives.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of career development strategies, including resume building, cover letter writing, job search techniques and interview preparation.
