Our District

The Madison Metropolitan School District is the second largest school district in Wisconsin. The district serves a beautifully diverse population of more than 25,000 students. More than half are students of color. Almost half come from low income households. Nearly one third are English Language Learners, and more than 100 languages are represented in our schools. Description

AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) is a college readiness system implemented in Madison Metropolitan middle and high schools. AVID Tutors facilitate small, student-led tutorial groups, model and support the development of inquiry and critical thinking skills. AVID Tutors work with AVID students during the academic school day and are an integral part of the AVID college readiness elective course.

Additional duties include: assessing and providing feedback on student work, attending regular tutorial debrief meetings and additional professional learning scheduled throughout the year. Possibly create anchor charts or resources for students to help them run a successful tutorial.

Work Schedule
  • Lead AVID Tutors work in AVID middle schools within MMSD.
  • Lead Tutors are required to work the same schedule on Wednesdays and Fridays during a school’s scheduled AVID elective classes, as well as an additional 6-8 hours during the academic school day to provide additional classroom and coordinator support (schedule coordinated to work with the AVID team’s needs). Preference will be given to applicants who are available to work Tuesday through Friday, during the AVID Elective Class.
  • This position is typically a 10-12 hour weekly time commitment. There may be an opportunity to combine this with some additional tutoring hours at the high school level.
Qualifications
  • Previous AVID tutoring experience and knowledge of AVID tutorology methodologies
  • Previous experience working with diverse middle school students
  • Excellent communication skills
