Job Description

A Building Lead in a school plays a critical role in supporting daily operations, strengthening communication, and ensuring that both staff and students are successful throughout the school day. This position often serves as a bridge between teachers and administration and helps maintain a safe, organized, and productive learning environment. Below is a detailed description of the responsibilities typically expected of a Building Lead.

Instructional

Support

The Building Lead helps maintain strong instructional practices across classrooms by:

  • Supporting teachers with curriculum implementation and pacing
  • Monitoring classroom instruction to ensure alignment with school expectations
  • Assisting with lesson planning support when needed
  • Helping teachers interpret student data to improve instruction
  • Encouraging student-centered learning strategies
  • Supporting new teachers with onboarding and classroom management guidance
Staff Supervision and Support

A Building Lead works closely with staff to ensure professionalism and consistency across the building by:

  • Serving as the first point of contact for teacher concerns during the school day
  • Supporting substitutes with schedules, materials, and expectations
  • Helping monitor staff attendance and coverage needs
  • Reinforcing school policies and procedures
  • Providing informal coaching and feedback to staff
  • Supporting a positive staff culture and morale
Student Support and Behavior Management

Maintaining a safe and structured learning environment is a key responsibility. Duties may include:

Daily Operations and Building Management

The Building Lead helps ensure the school runs smoothly by:

  • Overseeing daily schedules and transitions
  • Supporting arrival, dismissal, and hallway supervision
  • Assisting with emergency procedures and safety drills
  • Monitoring classroom coverage when staff are absent
  • Coordinating building logistics during testing or special events
  • Ensuring classrooms and shared spaces remain organized and functional
Communication Liaison

A Building Lead acts as a communication link between administration and staff by:

  • Sharing updates from leadership with teachers
  • Gathering staff feedback and concerns
  • Supporting implementation of school-wide initiatives
  • Helping coordinate meetings and reminders
  • Assisting with family communication when needed
Data Monitoring and Academic Progress

To help improve student outcomes, Building Leads often:
