Our District

The Madison Metropolitan School District is the second largest school district in Wisconsin. The district serves a beautifully diverse population of more than 25,000 students. Purpose

of Position:

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Family, Youth and Community Engagement (FYCE), the purpose of the Student Engagement Specialist (SES) is to mentor and support students in comprehensive middle and high schools. This work will advance family engagement, support post-secondary preparation, cultivate belonging, support social-emotional well-being and community readiness through supporting an assigned caseload of students and facilitating student groups.

In addition, the SES will support student transitions from 5th-6th and 8th-9th grade levels, support student attendance, facilitate community connections and and support student engagement. SES mentorship aligns with the MMSD:
Excellence Together strategic framework and its Performance Objectives:
Academic Achievement, Belonging, and College Credit/Credentials. This position is also an eligible candidate for MMSD’s Grow Your Own Program.

This position will have a high degree of integrity, sustain a culture of continuous improvement, and be committed to creating and maintaining an inclusive work environment while having a growth mindset to a multi-faceted operation while having a focus on creating a positive work culture.

The Student Engagement Specialist will be assigned a high school and one or two feeder middle school(s), depending on the feeder pattern, by a department leader. Their caseload will be assigned by the lead social worker or administrator in their assigned schools.

This position is NOT on the behavior response team in schools.
