An English professor at UW-Madison seeks a graduate Project Assistant for 2026-27 to help analyze rich survey data and connect them to existing research. The core work is qualitative: making sense of open-ended survey responses and situating what we find within the larger scholarly conversation. It's a flexible, largely remote, and highly independent role — a good fit for a curious graduate student who likes turning data and reading into insight.
Professor Joshua Calhoun's current research — the work for which he seeks a Project Assistant — is focused on information management. One dataset explores how rare book libraries around the world approach the (sometimes) destructive biomolecular analysis of historical records. The other dataset tracks how college students manage information overload in the age of AI.
The position is for the 2026-27 academic year, but there is the potential for summer employment and for continuation the next academic year.
