Advanced Learning Teacher - Elvehjem
The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) is seeking highly motivated and energetic applicants for the Advanced Learning Teacher position at Elvehjem Elementary. Applicants should have a good attitude, willingness to learn, and passion for impactful work and learning.
The role includes direct coaching and teaching to support students' Advanced Learning needs across all content areas at two MMSD Middle Schools (locations TBD). Each portion of the role comprises 50 percent of the full time allocation for this role, though the exact schedule within the work day will remain flexible.
The Advanced Learning (AL) role entails collaboration with principals, instructional coaches, and teachers under the direction of the Director of Advanced Learning. The primary role of the AL Teacher is to support the education of students with advanced learning needs in a variety of ways, a mix of coaching, professional development, and direct intervention with students to support systemic access to advanced curriculum and instruction in the five domains outlined by the State of Wisconsin:
General Intellectual;
Specific Academic;
Leadership;
Creativity;
Visual & Performing Arts. Additionally, a focus of the work continues to remain in identifying students with potential for Talent Development.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform essential job functions include:
- Ability to manage numerous priorities within and across multiple work locations
- Ability to work collaboratively with principals, staff and families in order to solve challenges and implement change in accordance with department and district initiatives
- Knowledge of the Common Core State Standards and experience planning assessment for learning with these standards
- Knowledge of supports for academic, social, emotional, and behavioral issues for students with advanced learning needs
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
Minimum qualifications include:
- Bachelor's degree. Official transcripts are required for formal employment.
- Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) teaching license in Regular Education and/or Secondary Core Content Area.
- Minimum of three years classroom teaching experience in secondary setting
- Experience in coaching or other leadership role working with teachers to develop and implement standards-based curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting staff with anti-racist, culturally responsive, and inclusive teaching
Desired qualifications include:
- Supplemental Gifted and Talented licensure
- Teacher Certification in Mathematics, Secondary Level (DPI license 1400)
- ESL Teacher Certification (DPI license 1395)
- Leadership experience across grades levels K-12
- Bilingual language proficiency
- Training with QTEL strategies for supporting English language learners
- Training with AVID strategies for supporting disciplinary literacy

Working conditions may require:
- Travel to different locations within the district and to off-site meetings.
- Working evenings, nights, and some weekends.
- Hybrid work flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit.
- In-person presence unless otherwise directed by the building principal.
Physical requirements include:
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally and may involve walking, sitting, stooping or reaching.
- Manual dexterity is necessary for completing general tasks while operating office equipment.
- Ability to perform work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments throughout the year, including in inclement weather, spaces without air conditioning, and areas where temperatures may be uncomfortable or fluctuate rapidly.
